Would appreciate some advice from members.. Does the following look right?

This is what I got from Ferrari Maserati of Vancouver.

a) The braking system

Step 1 is to fully bleed the braking system including the abs module.

Cost $450.00

If this does not rectify the soft pedal then we will have to replace the master cylinder assembly which includes the brake booster

Additional parts and labor cost $ 2000.00

b) Car needs all fluids replaced

The cooling system is almost empty and there are multiple leaks

-Radiator is leaking

-Water pump is leaking

Cost for Service only $ 1500.00

- Radiator including installation $2200.00

- Water pump $ 1200.00

- Coolant hoses $400.00

c) The front timing cover on the engine is leaking engine oil

Cost to reseal the timing cover which includes the valve covers and all additional required gaskets and seal

$4000.00

D) The power steering pump is leaking

$1300.00

......................................................................................
If you want to address these issues I can offer a package price discount as the water pump and power steering pump have to be removed to replace the front timing cover gaskets.

Package price to replace the following

-Front timing cover gaskets

-Water pump

-Coolant hoses

-Radiator

-Power steering pump

- Complete Service (coolant engine oil, power steering fluid, drive belts and air and pollen filter)

$ 8300.00 +tax

.................................................................................................

e)Cost to replace LH front fog lamp and both front marker lamps and rr side marker lamp

$300.00

g) driver side window control switch can not be fixed would have to be replaced

$750.00

i) Tire pressure monitoring system has a fault for the tire pressure system control ecu. We would need to replace the control module and recalibrate the system

$1000.00

The numbers probably are right but I would go to an independent or even ship the car to one. Find out where the Ferrari guys go in your area and get a second opinion.

good suggestion! The car already at FMOV, I have to decide tomorrow itself what to do, as I have had all services/work done with them till date.

Yeah wow, with 46K miles on it I believe there will be some coolant leaks from the hoses, as I just had mine all done, but both water pump and radiator also leaking? I have doubts.

Also that front engine cover business is suspicious to me.

I await Jason's sage opinion as usual.

Fwiw I had a front main seal leak that the dealer fixed for $450 when I first bought my car. I was shocked it was so little but not everything has to require a second mortgage.

I am highly suspect of either the mileage or the repairs. I can walk up to any car in the parking lot and find things wrong all of them, and it is characteristic of dealers to do the same to their clients. For example, if there is a bit of seepage in your front main gasket, then that is not a big deal - the appearance of sludge on the bottom corner of the block caused by dirt adhering to what they call an "oil leak" doesn't mean you need to spend thousands to get rid of that dark spot. If it is indeed spewing oil onto the concrete floor or your valve cover gaskets are dripping onto your cats, then you might want to replace the ones that are leaking.

The window switch - how is it failing? That switch assembly controls the exterior door lighting and the F1 pump/door trigger. So, I'm not sure what technology is wrapped up in that little box but it's expensive. Fortunately, there are lots of low-mileage wrecked donor cars from which you can get a used part, if you choose. I just ordered one for mine for $100 including shipping.

Definitely get a second opinion. Taking this to a competent indy shouldn't be an issue because most of the issues you described are fairly "basic" repairs that don't need tons of Maserati knowledge (variators, clutch, or anything F1 are a whole different story).

Looks like a lot of BS though hard to tell without seeing the car. Like the TPMS ECU - you can get one for $2-300 on eBay or from certain dealers and its a 15 min DIY job to swap as its directly accessible (panel under the DS floor board). Recalibration involves starting car and hitting reset button up by the sunroof controls and then driving a few miles. $1K for that is complete robbery. And you don't need that done by a Ferrari/Maserati certified mechanic.

+1 ...get a second opinion...Without seeing the car it is hard to determine all the leaks...There are leaks and there are seeps...Not uncommon for an older car to have some seeps...You got a lot of aluminum components expanding and contracting..I think you are gonna find that the car really doesn`t need all that and it can be repaired much cheaper...Jason

I wouldn't spend that much money without a 2nd opinion. You can certainly have an independent perform much of that work for less. Not that going to a dealer is a bad idea but some work is Dealer Only and some can be done elsewhere to help save you money. Also, it may not all need to really be done such as seepage (stated above). It's not that big of a deal a true leak is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Hope that helps!

Best Regards,

Hello fellow members,

I really appreciate and thank you all for the feedback! Here is the latest update! I went to FMOV saw the issues with their Technician and my Indie, and on your advice I did renegotiate! Yes, there is seepage and leaks in a few areas (but not bad) the main question I asked was can I get away with just a quick fix on those? They said yes, with most of your leaks replaced with temp seals, but it becomes a huge liability issue if we notice it and have not addressed it as per the stated FMOV standards as the car is in excellent condition and those hoses are more than 10 years old. The major cost of $4000 CAD the front timing cover on the engine is leaking engine oil, Indie also looked at it and said it was leaking and can be fixed cheaper, but no mechanic in Vancouver (even the ones working with Ferraris) will deal with doing that without the proper consultation with FMOV (ICBC Issue) and may cost the same amount as FMOV for parts/labour etc. The reasoning was justifiable in many ways, therefore the full retail price to do all the work with everything mentioned was $13,400 CAD with taxes, I negotiated the price down to $8,300+taxes CAD with everything included. Got a loaner Fiat 500 for 2 weeks *facepalm*.
Also, I decided not to go with the $750 driver side window control switch, as just the one button is loose and everything seems to be working well. In short, there was a $1,500 CAD ($6,800 CAD+taxes) difference with the Indie mech, where I am not sure if something goes wrong again, how much of that I could have held the Indie accountable for versus FMOV. After looking at those problems, I felt like it was a matter of comfort level with FMOV as all my car was bought brand new from them and all records have been with them for the past 10 years which goes easier on a re-sell price and PPI for the next buyer.

Here was the breakdown with for the new quote: $8300 CAD

- Front timing cover gaskets

- Water pump

- Coolant hoses

- Radiator

- Power steering pump

- Complete Service (coolant engine oil, power steering fluid, drive belts and air and pollen filter)

- Cost to replace LH front fog lamp and both front marker lamps and rr side marker lamp

- Reupholster the mid side A and B pillars, gear box sides with the "Pleater" material as they has tear in them at the bottom.

- Bleed the braking system including the abs module.

- Cleaning/refinishing of the gearbox surrounding top plate as it was scratched up really bad.

Also on that note, I looked in to buying a new QP 2018 AWD OR a G wagonon up here in BC as it rains 6-8 months of the year doing some research on it. FMOV stay away from buying a 2014 -2015 QP at all costs. :surprise:

That is correct, yes $1800 a sq/ft is the reals estate market for condos and 3,000 sq/ft is for homes. Labour is getting to almost $200/hr.

That's great news! I cant believe they knocked off $5,000 but I told you so! I'll take my reward as a nice dinner next time I'm up that way lol On a side note, I cant believe they steered you away from an early QP6 so strongly, did they happen to say why?

Just a thought, some of these items to be repaired may be able to be staggered. In my opinion some of the prices quoted seem OTT, however there is no reason why an indie shop would not offer a guarantee on their work and from my experience with my cars a good independent shop will often source second hand parts, work out less expensive ways of repair, walk you through timed solutions, offer more honest advice and generally give you honest opinion. I would ask for recommended indies from club/ forum members in your area and work with them as I have only ever had poor dealer workshop experiences, Lies, exaggeration, poor service, overcharging, debatable quality of work.
A simple example,I had a Ferrari 355gts. It had an intermittent misfire, the dealer said it was a valve and that I should leave it with them to repair before I did more damage ,$4000 fix. My indie found it was some crap in the spark plug cavity which was shorting the spark every now and then, cost $70.00 to rectify, didn’t even need a new plug he diagnosed cleaned and rectified.

:thumbsup:While I understand what you're saying and pointing out. Vancouver is a whole new beast, The highest concentration of Supercars in one city than in any other city in North America. So much so that the Centralised Insurance ICBC has now a different rates for all super cars etc. This in return affects all aspects of repair and service. :frown2:
