Reading more, someone says "I unplugged the variable valve timing solenoid, and she ran perfectly." Someone else suggested unplugging that solenoid to see if the CEL goes away. Obviously not a fix but seems a way to confirm the solenoid is bad and a cause of the problem. Can anyone confirm/deny? Changing the solenoid looks easy and does not affect the timing.
