Your door handle is hooked to a steel line that is in turn connected to the door lock. My best guess is either the hook has come off or broke (quite common actually). Just take out the interior door panel and you should be able to check it out.

is that something I can fix myself or is the panel hard to remove
Only you will know if you have the skill and experience to fix the issue yourself. Chances are, if you have to ask, you should leave it for the dealer.

Same thing happened to me too. Its the door pull cable mechanism, it is very weak and very easy to break. Removing the door pannel is hard enough, and the part is most likely broken. Had my dealer replace it, and it was not cheap, the new part is just as weak so caution your passangers to be gentle with the door pull as you dont want to have to replace the part a second time.

quick question guys: if the cable mechanism is weak, wouldn't the driver's side door break first, since that handle is used much more often than the passenger's handle? or are you suggesting that the mechanism is stronger on the driver's side, meaning, the cable a larger gauge on the driver's side?

We're suggesting that it's Italian... so it breaks when & where it wants, not when it makes sense.

Undoubtably the most profound statement I have read since I've joined the forum.

thanks for clearing that up d dawg...now it all makes perfect sense!
:D See? I knew I'd ease your mind!

BTW, if you DO try to take the door panels off, do be very careful, as others have suggested... I recall seeing a thread awhile back where someone ended up having to buy a new set for one door because they didn't know a couple of fasteners were & ended up ruining a section as a result.

I don't know of any threads that show QP door panel removals, but if you want to try it, maybe start with the obvious screws & then ask questions here as you go... DO NOT force anything. It will only result in financial ruin. :)

If you search for thread showing door speaker replacement, there's a very good DI with pics... that might help with where some of the hidden fasteners might be on your car... that one's a Coupe or Spyder - can't recall which - but it might help.

I'm thinking of removing my drivers side door panel to take care of a couple of minor issues. The thing that worries me most, though, is the air bags. Any chance of setting them off? Is it best to turn the battery off?

The Haters are Working Overtime During the Recession

Hey, I get that the economy is bad and everyone needs to readjust their spending and be mindful of other people's circumstances, however, I have noticed a steady stream of mild hater attacks against my '07 QP Sport GT. Within the past two months there was what appeared to be a deliberate and aggressive door ding (no damage), major spitting on the front hood (juvenile), and all the air released from the front left tire (even more juvenile). Has anyone had similar experiences in recent months? I know this was a thread a few months ago before I had experienced any negative targeting of my car, but how common is this with other owners? I will admit that the car gets far more positive responses than negative, but enough with the petty BS. :biker:

Havn't experienced any personally. I have a neighbor with a MB (not terribly fancy or ostentatous) that recently had FUC* YOU keyed into the trunk lid in letters about 8" high
(and without the *, used by me on this family website)

How do you get an "aggressive door ding" with "no damage" Just curious

When you try to take the door panel off, the easiest way to do it, is totake off allthe screws that you know of. Then for all the hidden screws, the best way to lok for them is to find a gap and shove your whole hand in and feel around the back of the panel. Anything that is still stuck to the metal and cant be wiggled free, then it means it has a screw in it.

All the hidden screws are usually right around where you will rest your arm and behind the courtesy light.

Just this past week, I removed the door panels on my wife's Mercedes to replace the window regulator that had broken. After removing the door panel, I disconnected the air bag and did the work. After re-assembly, and checking out that everything work properly, I discovered that the SRS airbag malfunction light was on. Apparently, if I had disconnected the battery first, this wouldn't have happened. Now I need to take the car to a dealer or body shop that can connect the computer to reset the airbag system. Computer thinks the thing deployed because I disconnected it. Lesson - disconnect battery first.
