Seriously, theres nothing "open" about android unless you "root" it - kinda like "jailbreak" and iphone.

Truth matters. Do your part to stop the spread of BS on the internet.

Samsung phones are locked down so hard with KNOX. You cant even install or uninstall certain things.

Same way you cant put ANY android OS on any android device.

if your friend go a "virus" on his phone - he was either s super hacker - OR...youre just talking about MALWARE from a crappy app downloaded somewhere illegal.

So...I decided to do some experimenting and thought that for those of you who want your newly installed unit to look completely stock, you can try this. I'm NOT recommending it...I'm just showing everyone that it can be done.

The first unit that was shipped to me was defective, so Eric sent a new one to me and he said that I could keep the plastic surround from the defective unit since I had already painted it. I removed the plastic surround from the defective unit and returned it Eric. I received the replacement and that one has been installed in my car. I decided not to paint the replacement unit because I really didn't like the paint match.

I wanted to see if I could get the chrome button bezels from stock unit to fit into the new surround and since I had the old surround, I thought I'd experiment on it.

If you want to attempt the mod, you'll need a metric stepped drill bit. I purchased this one from Amazon:

I taped the drill bit so that I'd know when I got to 19mm. This is the hole size in the stock unit. On the top hole, I started drilling from the outside and saw that it "chipped" the plastic. You can see the chips in the photo. (First photo - First hole) I then drilled the second hole from the inside and it worked perfectly. (First photo - Second hole). In additional to drilling the hole, you'll have to remove the plastic lips that surrounds the holes. I did this after drilling and I used an Exacto knife to cut off the remaining plastic. I then removed the chrome surrounds from the stock unit (they're just pressed in place) and separated them. I had initially thought that I would have to remove the "ears" on the chrome surrounds, but found that it's not necessary, provided you insert the surrounds so that the ears don't interfere with the fit.

I'm planning to do the remaining two holes tomorrow and then I'll consider removing the unit in my car to do the mod on it. I purchased a unit for a friend and he said that he's definitely going to do the mod. I made sure to tell him to do it at his own risk!

Hi, did you finish all 4 chrome surrounds and did your friend do his?

It’s not easy to see on the photos and videos but do the buttons protrude further than they do on the original car switch panel?

it also looks like the 2nd and 3rd holes of the Aucar frame are not completely round?

I never did get around to installing the chrome rings. I'm considering purchasing the Gen 2 unit, but I might wait until the Gen 3 unit is released. In either case, I will most likely install the chrome rings, provided the frame hasn't changed.

hey guys, its been a while since i needed to adjust any VEHICLE settings. Now, I cant remember how to access the OEM Masi settings that were in the head unit config menu...stuff like auto locking, allowing trunk/pass access etc.

Where is that menu now with the AUcar?

i feel like I adjusted this in the past, but now - i dont see these u der install set OR user options.

I agree, it would have to be a heck of a design to consider it, If they can keep the classic look with modern features......may be a tough one to design If/when they come up with it, give us a peeky-boo and we'll have a gander. For now, though, gotta focus on one project at a time. 🤣

You even think that is necessary? I just poked an X in it with my razor blade. Was so tight I had to push really hard just to get the Coat Hanger through. Used a bunch of silicon lube to pull the RCA cable thru.

Thats how I made my hole... The added dab of silicone, for peace of mind, won't hurt
If you want to go with a grommet, by all means, have at it...

i would say that’s beyond good, perhaps even overkill. Very nice.

I've had to reset my unit back to factory default recently and noticed that some/most of the sound artifacts are GONE!

Its possible that they were coming from the car launcher and/or lore/lots of google apps running.

I'm still testing - but it's promising to say the least.

I also kind of like the simplicity of the default launcher. (or so I keep telling myself )

I finally figured out how to download offline maps in Google Maps on the head unit. Tap on your user profile icon then scroll down to "offline maps". There are other useful settings in the menu as well.

took one for the team and bought that AGAMA Launcher..

Verdict = do NOT buy! (lol)

that BIG logo front and center..theres options for other car logos but Maserati is not one of them

dont be too offended tho - ferrari and lambo weren’t options either

I just downloaded the latest AGAMA Launcher and it has Maserati now. I like how it looks more like a factory UI and the configuration/customization is extremely easy.
