So, I finally got the most of the parts that I need in, and am going to go ahead with the conversion as soon as everything else arrives.
Have you made a start on this project yet?

From Wikipedia.....

The most remarkable design detail were the tail-lights, consisting of LEDs arranged in the shape of boomerang. The car was replaced in early 2002 by the similarly designed Maserati Coupé, when Maserati returned to the US market. The original "boomerang" tail-lights were replaced because they did not meet US requirements for night-driving visibility.

Hi Buzz , your spot on there , but apparently it doesn't stop the US Guys from trying to buy up most of the 2nd hand / used market for the boomerangs here in the UK , so there must be quite a few in the US that have already been done just not on this forum i guess,

regards loz

If those tiny little tail lights on the Bimmer Z8 are legal, I can't see why the boomerangs wouldn't be. I don't know if I'd trust Wikipedia on this one.

I think they're gorgeous and make the car look more exotic!

Soon you'll be able to get boomerangs on your Kia electric.....(Chicago 2010 Auto Show)

It totally looks more exotic! I've heard some idiots tell me my Gransport tail lights looked like they came off of a Honda Prelude, shortly before they got smacked~!
Haha, I was thinking the same thing! Can these be purchased any cheaper than the what the OP was having them go for?

Would it be possible to do a simpler conversion by just swapping out the standard 4200 rear lights with a panel that had the 'boomerangs' built into it?
Obviously you wouldn't get the lights extending onto the boot lid but it would still achieve the same kind of look

This thread is quite old. However, I doubt much has changed as far as costs go. The largest costs are in the bodywork that needs to be done for the conversion.

Anything is possible. I just can't imagine a half-way aftermarket setup looking good.

I was also thinking that if you had a black coupe that you could black out the lights but leave the outside edge of the tails achieving in the boomerang effect in this way. Color matched taillight tint or overlays for other colors would be awesome too!

This would not work. The bulbs for the stock taillights are in part that would be blacked out. Remember the function taillights serve. Do you really want your insurance company denying a rear end accident claim because you blacked out 75% of your taillights?
