If the TPMS are original on your 2008, they likely need to be replaced. The long stay at the clear shield shop is likely coincidental to the TPMS error. The issues you have with the failure error, mode screen, etc. are consistent with a bad TPMS sensor. It might be just one sensor; however, once one goes, the other will fail close in time. I am on my third set on my 2005. My second set were the Beru OEM; third set was ordered from OEWheels, which were labeled Titan TPMS. They registered with the system within a few miles of driving without any issues. The pressure read out was consistent with my hand gauge. $141 for a set of 4 including shipping.

 

Sometimes the central TPMS control unit can go bad as well. The battery life for the sensors is around 5-6 years so a good idea to replace those first in your case. If the problem continues then you may need to replace the control unit which sits in the footwell under the floor plate.

I do think that as the battery reached end if life, driving the car around can keep the batteries more 'energised' - after a prolonged period of sitting around then likely one or more sensors completely died. It only takes one sensor for the whole system to stop working.

whats weird is i have formula dynamics lightweight rims with the tpms sensors. I have only had the new rims for about a year and a half, do you think the sensors could go bad that quickly?

 

could shampooing of the carpets and floor somehow make the TPMS fail because of the water/soap?

 

Most likely the TPMS control unit as mentioned by Mowlas. I replaced mine and have no more TPMS problems.

 

I am having similar issue on my 2011 QP S, I just got. I keep put air in the tires and the TPMS warming will go away only to show up on another tire.

It is in the front passenger floor compartment - in the UK I believe it is on the right side (both sides have floor compartments). In the US it will probably be on the left side. Here's a link on Eurospares...

I supposed there is a slim outside chance that wet shampooing may have compromised MNlotus's unit but I would have thought unlikely. You could probably swap the unit out yourself but I do not know how much electronic synchronisation work might be involved in addition to hitting the recalibrate button.

 

The TPMS Control Unit is under the footwell (driver's side) in the US. My indy diagnosed with SD3 to confirm that was the issue. He also stated that they have been known to go bad. A new unit is about $500
