I think, more accurately, Italian cars have crappy head unit utilization of the amplifier. My 355 sounded like crap until I replaced the head unit/amp. My Masi GT sounds glorious with the DSP, (digital signal processor), that's integrated into the Aucar unit.

If you ever have an opportunity to listen to the premium sound system in a Tesla, do yourself a favor and go for it. The best I have ever heard in any vehicle, outside of after market competition type stuff! It is completely ridiculous.

Guys not to try and sell you anything, but Tim is correct. You can replace the speakers with better speakers and it will still sound the same with the stock head unit. The absolute key here is the head unit with the DSP chip. The Gen 2 has 17 band EQ and the Gen 2.1 has 48 band EQ. On the subwoofer adjustments you can pull the hz down, I have mine set and 50hz, and you can independently adjust the subwoofers gain. I will tell you can get adjust this for some deep deep powerful bass, so much I have to pull the gain down sometimes. You also have a bass filter. Also clean crisp highs, the Bose speakers COME ALIVE!. Now if you upgrade the speakers with this head unit you will have a HUGE gain. If any of you talk to or have a chance to hear the difference you will be blown away just using the stock speakers.
I take long trips with mine so very important to have a really good sounding system. Here is my video, towards the beginning it shows the EQ

I too need to replace the subwoofers in my cabrio. I have a 2013 and the foam around the subs has torn. I have “repaired “ the subwoofers twice now but the problem has come back again. I will say that it is pretty easy to remove the seats and get access to the sub box. However, I would love to find a good replacement for the speakers. I realize that I can purchase used Bose ones on eBay but I would love to buy a new pair. Has anyone found a good replacement sub that will fit in the existing box without major modifications? Thanks.
Greetings GranTurismo Convertible owners. I cracked the code on replacing a failed original Bose subwoofer the the GranTurismo Convertible. To be clear, this post applies to Convertible owners with two (2) 5 1/2" 4OHM subwoofers located directly between the two rear passengers. After much research, it turns out you cannot order direct (new) replacements for this subwoofer from Maserati or 3rd party parts suppliers. They will sell you the entire rear BASE BOX for the Convertible (plastic housing with 2 subwoofers included), but his is a very expensive part and is probably not necessary.

OK, here is the fix. It turns out the Convertible rear two Bose subwoofers can be replaced with a Left or Right Front Door Bose Woofer Speaker from a 2012-2018 Audi A6. See Audi Part 4G0035298.

Here are a few pictures. As you can see, it is a perfect fit in every way. The first pictures in the car are both the original Maserati parts. The pictures on the table are side by side comparisons of the Maserati part against the Audi part. The Audi part essentially the same Bose subwoofer. They are both 4OHM speakers. Same exact size. Same depth (which is key). Same mounting hole placement (including the additional holes for the 2 mounting pins). It's an exact copy.

This Audi Bose subwoofer can be found on Ebay for about $100.00.

Note, I found the steps to access the GT Convertible's rear subwoofers to be fairly easy. Remove the two rear seat bottoms. Then, remove the lower bolts to the two rear seat back rests. I did not find it necessary to fully remove the two rear backrests. Instead, I just tilted them forward, which gave me ample access to the screws that hold the center trim cover over the subwoofers (i.e., with the plastic trim piece that houses the subwoofer grills) in place. Remove that plastic trim piece in its entirely, and you then have open access to the two rear Bose subwoofers. Good luck.

My subwoofer needs to be replaced. Do i need to remove both rear seats to get to it? Has anyone here replaced their subwoofers.
I found a solid direct replacement part for the GT Convertible rear Bose subwoofers. See this post from March 29, 2022 below. The part (an Audi 4G0035298) can be found used on Ebay.

That's pure gold - thanks for that.

Now I wish I had a Cabriolet! 😝 Great info!

Wow, @Mpwise144 Mahalo nui loa. 2x Maitais to you sir!

now, the only issue is that the actual speakers are kinda hard to find (on ebay) and are still very expensive OE. I bought a used GT sub box from ebay 2 years ago...of course, the speakers were barely better than my blown ones. I wish we could easily drop in an actual replacement speaker from a QUALITY brand lol (not blows).

Says the folks that qualify good stereo by the extreme nature of the bass. Its not great, its not half bad either esp when playing CD's or 320 uploaded CD's. Low quality input yields low quality output.. Sorry, Cerwin Vega didn't do the system. Any GM system i have EVER heard truly sucked. Muddy, no clarity or staging...bush league....a true Chevy experience
I leave everything BASS +4 --+5, TREBLE -1 TO +1. There is a definite quality difference in the CD type sources and the bluetooth input.

My 2011 Had a subwoofer ‘buzz’. I removed the subwoofer driver from the box and noticed that the coil was moving freely - meaning it was not rubbing or hitting the magnet. I also noticed if I tapped lightly on the cone I could replicate the ‘buzz’. As it turns out the adhesive holding the dust cover had failed. I glued the dust cap with clear Gorilla Glue, and it solved my problem :)

All Italian cars have crappy sound systems. My 430 Spider originally came with an ancient Becker's radio and only 2 speakers! (With the loud engine behind you, though, you can't even hear it. Lol).

Now days, most current Maserati's come with Harmon Kardon (which still sucks).

Contrast this with the Germans. BMW offers Bowers & Wilkins, Mercedes with Burmester, and Audi with Bang & Olufsen. All top-end.

Italians are just not good with offering bells & whistles on their cars. Their focus is on the driving experience.
And as though that’s not bad enough, mine gets really lousy radio reception - especially AM stations. I wonder if the Aucar head would solve that?
