The only time I got that message on my 4.7 was after I changed the oil, and I was a little too careful about not overfilling. I've never seen it burn through any oil. (2013 GTS)

 

They don`t normally use much..It could have been underfilled previously....I would top it up and keep an eye on it, but I doubt it is a problem.....Jason

 

The first thing that came to mind when reading your post initially was, what was the exact oil level when you took delivery? Was it truly serviced and an oil change done or at least topped off? There’s been some deceptive dealer crap and service or lack there of being documented. Without knowing exactly how much oil you started with, there’s no way to know if it’s consuming more than normal. My car as a daily driver consumes virtually no oil. I’m talking I’ve personally never had to add a drop in the last 5,000 miles and I tend to drive pretty spiritedly almost exclusively in sport manual for reference. As Jason said, fill it to the proper level and keep a close eye on it.

 

I bought my 2014 brand new. I got this message after a year of ownership. The dealer may have done a change or added oil (sorry can't remember). I never saw it again...until 3 months ago, right after I had my car scheduled for an oil change with my indy. I actually added 2 quarts to be safe - since it is kinda hot here in Maui. After the oil change, I asked the indy was amiss and he said he saw no signs of leaks or anything.

In the Porsche world, I was used to adding oil to my 996tt every 5k miles. The GT certainly doesn't come close to that, but yeah - I've consumed some oil on mine. 17k miles and pretty solid all around.

 

yes Jason, the starting oil level when i took delivery is the only variable i can't confirm. i'll keep an eye on it before the next oil change this summer.

 

For my 2014 GTS with 27,000 miles, I've found that oil levels are very sensitive to when you check levels after shutting down a fully warm engine. The manual is explicit about checking 5 minutes after shut down and with the oil fill cap off. I measure half full when checking "by the book." If I let the engine completely cool, then it shows at the full mark!! I am concerned about oil consumption also, so I am checking levels at the same relative time after shutdown to know for certain if mine is consuming oil. It has no leaks or no apparent smoke at the exhaust.

I've got 29k on my 2013 (owned since new) and it has never used any oil. I change it annually.

Also had to add about 650ml (1.4pints) to mine - (message displayed to add oil) - +-8000kms (4970miles) after I bought it.

Car had about 70 000kms (43500miles) on the odometer at the time.

Booked it in for service (it was almost due and it was at the dealer for checking the suspension) - response from workshop manager was that it is acceptable / normal for it to use a bit of oil.

I also didn't check the oil when I bought it - but will keep an eye on it

 

my 09 4.7 hasn't seemed to burn any oil in the 22k miles i've used it (got it with 26k miles so 48k miles on the dash total) - same spot on the dipstick every check/oil change. I suspect the last oil change the person just didn't put the correct amount in and did not realize it - worth monitoring but I suspect this is what happened

 

There really shouldn't be much oil loss at all from our experience. Keep an eye on it, also look for smoke in the exhaust and a smell. In order to lose 2qts of oil, you'd likely notice smoke, a smell or a leak.

I've had the same issue with my '16 GT Sport. I've had mine for 7 months now and low oil light is burning as well. Same deal CPO car, supposedly serviced. The variable is what level was it when I took delivery and I don't know. I've added a quart and will keep my eye on it.

 

The fact that it's a CPO car means nothing. The Maserati CPO program is a joke and Maserati leaves it to each dealership to "certify" vehicles. By certifying a vehicle, a dealership will charge between $2-3k more for a car. It's a scam.

 

2013 GTS - no noticeable consumption at all , six years ownership, driving five days a week, I have the oil changed once a year ( I log on b/w 9 -10 K miles annually, except this year when it sits a lot ) and never saw the low level light .
