Then that must mean the Gransport is 1.5 most beautiful car in the world! Just kidding fellas! As for the other european cars, they each have their place in our hearts. Although, I was looking to buy my wife an BMW M3 hard top convertible with most options new, and its pretty pricey, with options! If I'm going that far, its not that much further to get a Gallardo in excellent condition these days.... something to think about. And for some reason, I don't know if there is a deeper bottom for them

This is an interesting post. Here's my 02:

Virtually every high-end vehicle depreciates rapidly--be it Rolls, Bentley, Ferrari, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8 or Maserati. The rapid depreciation of high-end vehicles is why most people lease rather than buy the cars off the showroom floor. Leasing allows you to get all the benefits of driving a high-end vehicle with the smallest amount of cash invested during the period you are driving the car--and with the security of a bumper-to-bumper warranty included. Also, here in the US, there are significant tax benefits that allow businesses to deduct much, even most, of their lease payments.

Do Maseratis depreciate faster than similar brands? Comparatively speaking, I do not believe Maseratis have depreciated any more so than their competitors--perhaps even a little less because Maseratis didn't have the super-high sticker prices of some of the other brands.

The Silver Lining is, of course, that the depreciation of the Spyder, Coupe and QP models make them incredible "bargains" for the purchaser looking to buy a truly exotic vehicle at a fraction of what the cars sold for new. Of course, owning a truly exotic vehicle comes with some strings attached--namely the high cost of repairs/maintenance. That fact simply has to be factored that into the cost of ownership.

The Cambiocorsa issue. My thoughts are that Maserati made an error in attempting to "mass market" the CC in America; it's a wonderful trans-axle, but just not for Americans. Americans are not, for the most part, driving enthusiasts or protagonists. They want to drive the car, talk on the phone and eat a cheeseburger all at the same time. So the CC answers a question that most American drivers never ask. Maserati eventually woke up to this fact and now produces cars with their version of the familiar "slush box" automatic found in every other high end car sold here. The result will be that Maserati will sell more cars and have higher rates of return buyers. But, sadly, these new automatic Maseratis have a lot less in common with their high-performance fore-bearers.

Heck where were you guys when I was looking for my '06 spyder. Having owned a ferrari 348, Porsche C4S, a Jag, and Merc, I say the Maserati is the best of the bunch. Probably will not be as reliable as the C4 but a hell of a lot cooler. Can't beat the V-8 and the exhaust note. The torque is great too!

Resale time I will take a bath but I knew that when I got into cool cars. As I've told my kids " Rule number one-- always have a cool car.

Perfectly stated!

Nah....personally, I'm not into the GTR and its looks. Its a japanese car, and it looks like an import tuner toy for a younger guy. Just my 2 cents.

Don't get me wrong, performance wise it is a friggin beast, and can hang with cars costing triple, its the best value ultra high performance car that can hang with the best of em, but a nissan??

No way. For me, at least. Its about style signore style. And class. That's what maserati means to me

As for the depreciation issue, I don't plan on selling my cars I will drive them into the ground, it wouldn't be worth the loss on depreciation I took on these already, and I bought into my cars knowing I would never ever sell them.
I love them too much exactly for what they are. As for the re-sale value, let me remind you guys that cars are only worth what people are willing to pay for them. For the majority of the people out there, this brand is not a brand to be appreciated by the masses, and I love it just like that.

It is the most unknown and under appreciated little secret in the exotic/luxury car world. And it is an exotic, built by hand one by one in italy by artisans. Not mass produced at all.

Its worth to me, every frkin penny they cost. If you guys want to change cars, just work harder save more money and buy another one. Nobody ever breaks even when it comes to cars. Its all a wash. So you have to make a wise decision and buy exactly what you want from the get go. I did all my homework and always knew I wanted my QP as the first time I was exposed to it, no other car gave me the chills like that one did. That's when I knew, I promised myself that when I had the means to, I was gonna get one no matter what. And I haven't looked back since. Everytime I start my car, I end up thinking, "life is good"-

OK.. Someone said the car is dated (from ALL the way back in 2002).. News flash! This is the SAME body design as the 3200 GT introduced in 1998. And I must say that for a 12 year old design I still turn heads and intimidate ricky-racers. The car is a work of art and truly timeless. I don't care if it's worth $10.00, to me it's priceless!

Well Said, buzz! I think our car's body design truly is timeless... Everytime I look at my baby, she is just beautiful, and unlike anything else on the road...

So here's the plan for making our beloved Maseratis hold their value or even appreciate:

  • From here on, we never discuss maintenance costs....only how long we've gone without spending a dime...."damn cars run forever and don't cost a cent to own"
  • Name-drop celebrity sitings - spotted while enjoying or getting arrested in their Masers
  • We never get beaten at the stoplight or the track; make it up, embellish it, those with writing skills - post your novels
  • We post stories about how naive owners have let their '02 & '03 babies go for only $60 or $70K - destined-to-be classics
  • We get Andrew to play the audio from Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good" every time you it the home page (if your profile has you at over 40) or Skull Gang's "Body Like a Maserati" if you're under 20. For you in the middle, don't know what to say....maybe Brad Paisley's "Online"
  • The only complaint allowed is that ownership is causing us problems at home because of all the unsolicited attention from the fairer sex (or the boyz for our ladies here).
We keep this up for a year and I'll bet the values goe up. :D
Way to go Vincenzo luv it

Of course it is in the eye of the beholder but the Coupe is a great looking car in my opinion and looks as good, if not better than, the Granturismo. But don't even mention the German sports cars for looks - BMW is hideous: Porsche is iconic but not as good looking as 2004 Coupe. My Coupe is still turning heads wherever I go.

The Coupe from a performance aspect is still a hot car. It is not a track car but it is faster than Granturismo and most any other car you will come across. What is the new technology that is anything more than incrementally better?

It is not clear to me that Coupe has depreciated more than other similar cars. It has depreciated and I expect it will continue to depreciate. But to advise everyone to sell now makes no sense to me. If you want something else, or if you have a financial problem then sell it now makes sense.

I doubt that it will become a collector car.

Depends really what sort of cloth you have to cut , Uk market is slightly different in the respect that BM and Mercs and Audi's are two a penny ,as in the Us considered something different ,here every street dealing scumbag has one , and yes we have them over here aswell, Problem ive come across several times when toying with the idea of changing or selling is where do i go from the GS ,

Anything near comparrison or performance wise is another $40K-$50K on top of what its worth , there are so many B ems, Mercs, Audi's, Jags Porkers that they all look relatively the same gonna stick where i am for the time being What price do you put on exclusivity only cars close are Turismo gt/s, Fezzas ,Astons, Lambo's and the Audi R8 No i'll wait another year or two untill im inline for one of those thanks.

Sorry, but you're "dead wrong"...

I bought an S5 a few weeks ago, and it is a very, very beautiful car. Almost looks like the illegitimate child of a muscle car and a Maserati. The interior is impressive as well. Not all German cars are ugly!
The S5 looks quite good because.........it was designed by Walter Da Silva, a well known ITALIAN designer.;)

The GTR however is impressive but ugly.
A 911 is the most outdated sportscar i've ever seen.

What about taste...

I would add "Only post pictures of cars with attractive ladies"

BYZZ.........................so very true.............can't believe how utterly gorgeous it looks, especially on the move......am I allowed to use a cliche on this esteemed board ???........:D......."simply poetry in motion"....timeless.....dateless.......the epitomy of modern Italian automotive design.....IMHO.

Think the S5 came out of the same German Jelly mould as all the Germanic makes , trouble is , when all the same info is pumped into the same aerodynamic efficiency programme, the computer is gonna spew out virtually the same answer each time , simples , now the good news is the Italians thank god, havent worked out yet how use a computer so they just naturally do what they think looks good and thank the lord they do if its one thing they do well is dress and design good cars shame they car employ the germans to buildem oh yeah they do Lamborgini

I bought my 04 6-speed coupe a few months ago, and I went for the 6-speed mostly as a result of what I read in this forum. Now after reading through this thread, I really really think I did the right thing.
The 6MT cars are great. Don't believe the negative banter about Cambiocorsa cars. You will find that most of the people that are down on technology (F1 transmissions) haven't even owned a car equipped with the same.

Hi kramsay1234, I just bought a 90th anniversary #77/90...how do u like it? and problems to be aware of? Any feedback from anyone else would also be appreciated! Thanks!!
No significant problems to note with that model or trim package. Enjoy!
