2006 Maserati Quattroporte threw a Rod today after extensive misdiagnoses. it flew out the bottom of the motor. It was obviously loose and counting its time. Below are some Pictures of this connecting rod.

Im neither scared nor upset, as Id like to learn alot more from and about the Motors that make these beautiful cars run.

Its obviously a V8, with a pushed back position under the hood (Mid engine?). Can this motor be removed from the top, or is it underneath only. I will begin a tear down of the engine bay to empty it out, while I wait for my new motor.

What were the symptoms?

No symptoms, just a noise. The noise I previously dealt with on here. But the car still ran like a race car. Maserati looked for any foul play and didnt find much.

The only symptom I had was a Terrible knock which we could concluded was a rod knock, most likely against the valves.

You normally get a rod knock for starters because of the clearance in the rod bearing...The constant pounding generally stresses out the rod bolts and they snap off..This is how you end up with a hole in an engine.....Jason

Jason, I want to pull the engine and build a completely New one with updated Variators.

Whats the easiest way to pull this block. Can i pull it out the top? Ive only seen it pulled from the bottom.

I know this question is directed to Jason, but I don't believe there are any variator updates to 2006MY dry sumps. You just get the new units, mounting bushings, compression segments and new seals.

There is no update for DS variators....I have never had to replace an engine in a Maserati, but this is how you should do it based on my experience and watching the car being built online...You gonna need to remove the entire drive train from the bottom...The gearbox, torque tube, engine and radiator.. Trying to do it the conventional way from the top will be a PITA..We did a 456 engine that way and it just sucked...Jason
