Friends
I picked up the car about an hour ago and drove her about 40 miles.
Initial reaction the clutch is better than new. I bought the car with 4000 miles on it and clutch engagement was never as crisp and firm as it is now. The clutch actually feels like it has bite as it engages in 1st and is quicker in 2nd 3rd and 4th. The car actually feels faster. Carlos says Classic Coach has a great programing tech with all the factory software and that there were no issues.
I am happy to post the invoice on the forum if someone tells me how to do it.
But the following is what was replaced.
Angolar speed sensor $93.99
F1 sensor support $123.99
thrust bearing $669.99
bearing $51.49
kit cpl di sensor 299.99
clamp $2.74
total parts $1242
Rebuild Clutch with Kevlar
$1095
Labor
$1602

Grand total $3939 but everything is new

I will continue to report

Carlos at Classic Coach said he may post his # 908 352 3939 . The shop is amazing $1,000,000 Ferrari's, rare Alfa's and Maserati's everywhere . BTW I was treated as though I owned a rare Ferrari. I always felt like a second class citizen at the dealers because I owed a Maserati and not a Ferrari.

4k is a steal compared to replacing the clutch at a dealer, especially since the Kevlar should last longer and bite harder. This is a great revelation jbergstein, I'm sure many of other forum members will be choosing to follow your footsteps on this one. Congrats and thank you!

So apart from the original parts, the only difference is the Kevlar clutch?

Also, did you send a used clutch or did you send a new one ?

That's not bad at all. I paid over 4K for my clutch but that included the flywheel as well. Yep - keep us posted. You may have just won a lot of clutch rebuilds for Classic Coach.

Classic Coach sent the clutch out for Kevlar resurfacing, do not know where.

My understanding is that the skill is in the programing and to a lesser degree the resurfacing of the clutch. But I am not the expert.

In 1st on easy acceleration it is flawless, more harsh on hard acceleration.Spoke to Carlos he says its brand new drive it a week and then we can adjust it.

Any break in needed?

As previously mentioned you have a lot of us with ears perked on this one! One thing I seem to remember about kevlar is the need for a break in period. Is this correct and if so what does it entail?

What worries me is the programing. Are talking about SD3 adjusting the KIS/PIS or whatever parameters? or are we talking about some custom modifications on the CC software?

If its just the SD3 doing its work, then a Kevlar clutch shouldn't be a problem for any of us.

There is a break period according to Carlos. I am going to drive it for a couple of weeks and then bring it back for adjustment. It was a little glitchy in 1st this morning on start-up. It got much better after 5 minutes. Its my daily driver so two weeks should be enough time to get a feel for it. My understanding there is no special software just someone who knew what he was doing but I will ask Carlos. So far I am pleased 2-6 gear seem perfect. 1st is a working but I think it may need an adjustment.

Thanks for the update , be sure to keep us notified once Carlos has re-adjusted after the break in period , im pretty sure this is the right way to go for future longevity clutch wise and i would appreciate any plus/minus points that arise in the near future if you could , if you could find the time i would appreciate if you could supply me Carlo's work details by pm , over here in the UK i havent found any workshop willing to take this on who have experience in the kevlar / sd3 set up , my regular guy has fitted hundreds of oem clutches and has all the necessary and is willing to try , but i think it would be prudent for me to be able to draw on Carlo's know how incase we have difficulties

Kinds regards

This single posting, if all turns out well in the end, may close one the few open issues with owning the CC....I'd love it if we could put this one to bed once & for all. We'd never be able to do this without this venue to share information like this.

Vincenzo I feel the same way. I would have never thought about Kevlar had it not been for the forum. I have learned a lot about my car through the experience of other mebers of the forum. I will continue to keep the forum updated as I go through the break in period. Overall there is an improvement over the original clutch that I don't think is my imagination. I have 55,000 miles on my car and miles to go, so I know I will need this forum in the future.

I have put about 350 miles on the new clutch and 1st seems to be getting smoother in first gear during moderate acceleration engagement. Hard acceleration a bit better but still feels like I popped the clutch some wheel spin but then full engagement and the car feels quicker. I may go back for an adjustment. 2nd - 6th a joy in ether moderate or hard acceleration. Overall I love it.

If they need to adjust really anything other than the PIS, there are a handful of years that WON'T work with a kevlar clutch.

Kiss points weren't programmable until 2005. So 2002, 2003, and 2004 cars wouldnt be able to work with it.

The OP has a 2004 Coupe.
