A lot of variables there as this isn't a Turbo 400..The parts to totally redo a ZF6hp 26 correctly make it a pretty expensive option..The mileage kinda dictates what you replace ...Big difference between 40k and 150K...It's not really the kits and they are not that hard to rebuild honestly...It's you don't know what you got till you drive the car post repair and if it's not right then you are starting over....Which is a major ordeal on a vehicle like a Land Rover with 4wd..Most people just want a used transmission and that is what we do...We let them buy and ship it to us and it frees up us from all liability 3 months done the road...We just did this on a LR3....Jason
Cheers! and great advice from an expert!

Thank you for chiming in. Based on the my updates I've provided thus far... is there anything I should be doing or discussing further with the shop that's performed the work? Do I mention the valve body again? Do I just drive the car and just hope and pray the shift gets better and doesn't harm the transmission? I'm open to your guidance here...

I think you need to make an appointment with the shop owner and test drive the car with him and show him your concerns...A 6HP last a lot longer than 40k, but anything can break...I imagine it needs the valve body rebuilt...The biggest issue with these things is the valve body wearing out...I imagine he didn't replace the valve body because it only had 40K...That doesn't mean there isn't something wrong with it...I would see what you can work out with him...Maybe you pay for the VB and he does the labor for free...It's not that hard to swap...That would be the direction I would go at this point...Jason

Very good, then. Thanks Jason I appreciate your insight.

Hey guys, just a small update. Took the car into the shop yesterday (monday). Explained the experience to them. Mentioned the valve body. They are going to run their diagnostic to check for codes first, do several test drives (city drive, freeway drives, etc) to replicate what I experience. Hope to hear back from them today. All things could be normal... who knows. I will continue to keep this thread updated. At this point, I'm just documenting everything here so future granturismo owners have something to turn to if they run into the same experience. thanks

I agree Jason, from me tearing into 3 6HP valve bodies to do some trouble shooting since having my GT, it’s not so much the miles, but the age and use of the seals in the valve body that breaks down. I also think that it has to do with the transmission fluid properties breaking down with hard use/heat cycles. I have tons of pictures from where the crazy complex and intricate seals just relieve themselves and causes the fluid to create all kinds of mayhem that can lead to erratic shifting. So my conclusion is, GTs that are driven hard and irregularly for 40K will have transmission problems, while GTs that are a bit more docile and more often will have less issues. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk…

Hi all - Got the car back yesterday. They ran a diagnostic on it, found zero codes. Ran the vehicle through another relearn process. Checked for leaks or any other irregularities or anomalies and found nothing. Took it for 3 test drives after all checks and relearn. I followed up on the valve body. They did not replace the valve body however they assured me that it was properly assessed. So far so good with the driving experience. I plan to take it out for a 20-40 miles drive today. All else fails, it's under warranty for 6 months no questions asked. Thank you all again for following this journey. More updates to come...

I work on low mileage 6HP26 cars that are driven all kinds of ways and they shift just fine...The OPs issues are not the norm...You can drive all these cars whatever ways and come up with theories, but in realty sometimes shit just breaks...Jason

I think that is the best thing you can do, just take it out and put some miles on it! Glad to see you're getting it sorted though...stuff like this can be really frustrating at times.

Agreed! Let’s get that on a t-shirt! “Sometimes shit just breaks -Jason” 🤣🤣🤣

Well, since "J" actually has my GT, right now, I believe I deserve the first t-shirt! 🤣

Hey all - Just wanted to touch base - Car is performing well. Sometimes going from 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st isn't 100% smooth but I honestly don't know if that's abnormal and just the way it is.... definitely not something I'm worried about. I'm not sure how many miles the "relearn" process takes but since getting the car back from the last time it was in for a check-up, I've probably only put about 50-75 miles on the car. All in all, so far so good. Thanks!

Hey All - another update for this journey. Took the GT back to the transmission shop today. I just don't believe the downshift from 3rd gear to 2nd is accurate.... it's too hard and clunky of a shift - especially compared to all of the other shifts through all gears. Something's gotta be up with 2nd gear. Anyways, they did reproduce what I told them and sounds like they will have the car for a few days at least. They told me they will first check for codes and then check the programming. More to come...
