Hey all,
Been a very long time since I have been on here (sold my ‘06 QP sport GT back in 2014) but looking at getting back into the Maserati brand again. Have a couple questions on a S vs a GTS Quattroporte as it pertains to the 2011-2012 models. I know the exhaust and suspension are different but wondering if swapping in a Larini valved exhaust like ones from Formula dynamics on an S model will be similar to a GTS factory setup? Rented a GranTurismo Sport in Vegas this winter, which got me itching to get that sound back in my life.

Secondly, is there any differences in transmission performance between the GTS and S models? Like in sport manual mode will the S hold to the rev limiter or automatically shift up?

I ask these questions because I have found my perfect spec (white exterior on black interior) in an S model and don’t know if or when a GTS like this might pop up.

Thanks for any insight, looking forward to joining the fold once again soon!!

The Larini isn't a perfect match to the original Sport GTS Mufflers but the QP GTS mufflers sound different than the GranTurismo Valved Mufflers. Truly though, Larini is the closest you'll get to that Sport Sound and is certainly a big improvement over the original Factory Maserati QP S Mufflers. The Sport GTS is a great model but they are becoming so hard to come by. Plenty of ways to upgrade an S and still get a great experience.

Reach out with any questions, always happy to help!

Best Regards,

I have a S, and there is also a major selling point (to me) in favour of the S : ground clearance !
I have a very steep ramp to enter my garage and the S clears it by literally 1/8 inch, I have to ask my wife to go out of the car when I put it in, a GTS would never get in :)

Transmission won't hold on the rev limiter, even in sport mode and manual, it will sometime also downshift on its own when you floor it from 2nd gear, and put a 1st, which is a bit frustrating (I scared a few cyclists doing that...). Still an amazing car that sounds gorgeous, is surprisingly agile and fast on twisty roads, and yet does not break your back when you encounter a pot hole (which there are plenty in Bay Area where I live).

I currently own a 2010 GTS and a 2013 S, also owned a 2014 GTS so if you have questions i think i may have some answers. As stated above the S will not hold the revs and it will shift up automatically. The engine tune/map and the transmission map is different on the GTS and I can tell you the 2 cars drive nothing alike. The GTS feels light and more nimble and lighter on its feet as where the S feels heavier and seems to need a lot more effort to get going. I have owned 2 Gen 5 S cars and they both felt the same compared to the GTS.

Sorry for the terribly slow reply here. I appreciate all the insight you guys have given me. Unfortunately with work I wasn't able to get out west to view the car I was interested in and it has since sold. I think from all the info I am gathering here I will wait it out for a QP GTS model or I may go to a GranTurismo S if the right one were to come up as the 4 doors isn't exactly necessary for my current situation.
