Sorry I did not respond to your text, got sidetracked and completely slipped my mind.

From what I can see this notes that there is a temperature sensor fault within the emissions system. There is a thermocouple within the exhaust - you noted yours was aftermarket, so I would check that sensor is installed as step #1. Item 56 on the below diagram. As you likely have cat deletes, it would be about 6-8" ahead of where the secondary pipes connect with the X-pipe:

I think that indicates that the cat isn't reaching operating temp by the time the o2 sensor comes out of the closed loop in start up mode. It probably means that you primary cat is on its way out, it also might have already have fallen apart thats why it cant reach temp.

I would start with a sensor fault ahead of blaming the cats - unless the car has some sort of impact damage to the exhaust. The only information I can source is that it applies to bank 1 on a Mazda - perhaps another forum member has access to the Maser specific codes to verify this is the same? Alternatively, a call to a local Maser dealership may be helpful to identify.

If this is verified, I would personally replace the downstream sensor for the bank in question.

I think you mentioned that you previously cleared the code and it re-appeared. Can you confirm this?

When the first # in the OBD2 code is a 1...In like P1420...You can't just google generic codes as it is manufacture specific...I'm showing a P1420 as an issue with the purge valve....Jason

Looks like I was barking up the wrong tree - the expertise is much apprecaited.

Now that the authority has spoken, it looks like a $25 part Maserati 180861, WASHER VALVE - Scuderia Car Parts

Replacement should be easy. Under the plastic cowl on the drivers side near the bulkhead.

OK , re code P1420 - I have - a problem with the cat. sensor, or a problem with the fuel tank purge valve, or a problem with the washer valve - - - I need more help ! What do I need to better define the problem ? A dealer will do a OBD search for $225.00 but I don't know if I will have more info. or not. Bob Zim

I got the P1420 code definition from a list for a 430 Ferrari, but it should be the same I suspect. My scan tool would give a better description, but that isn't gonna work here....The purge valve is the washer valve and I have no idea why they call it that in the parts catalog....I would find the purge valve, unplug the electrical connector, start the car and let idle for a minute and then read the fault codes again...If you want to wait till Monday I can get a better definition for you...The 430 info could be incorrect...Jason

P1420 is for the canister purge valve....Jason
Jason and Sanmian - I purchased the new purge valve and motor - attempted to install but have not been able to so far. The power plug does nor want to release. Trying to pull the part up from it's canister there is a hose attached to the bottom preventing it from coming up and no access to it's clamp, aaaaand how do you release the hose clamps to begin with ?? Any suggestions ?

The power plug should release by pressing on the metal clip...On the hose clamps, you a dental type pick into the little hump and pop the clamp open...You can go back with 2 zip ties....Jason
