Little/No Throttle response 0-8% ish pedal movement. Normal?

2007 QP V Sport GT automatica. Ever since I got the car, I've felt there was a dead spot from rest position on the accelerator pedal to about 8% or so throttle. At leat 5% for sure. After that, it seems fine. I push on the throttle from a stop light... nothing happens... I push more... nothing.... little more.... thrown back in my seat and the car leaps forward. I have to REALLY be trying hard to not get this jerky response. But unless I'm flooring it, it's always felt sluggish and unresponsive "out of the hole".

I've thought it was maybe bad/old plugs, or a stopped-up air filter. Something in the tuning. But I just did new plugs and replaced the air filter. And if anything, it got worse. I've thought maybe it was a bad potentiometer in the peddle, or even low/old fluid in the ZF tranny. Or just leaking seals inside the value body. The TB responding slow? Or maybe, just maybe, that's just how these cars are (never driving another, there isn't any others around). But it's bad enough I just can't believe this would be how they were designed. But what do I know.

There IS a reason the DBW kits are popular on these, is this why?

Anyone else feel the first 10% of throttle movement is terribly muted?

I did extensive testing today, when in drive I have noticeable movement of the peddle with no noticeable response from the engine. Especially from a stop, or at idle speeds. Everything seems normal once I'm above 5-10 mph.

I tested in park, and the engine does respond in this pedal range when there is no load on the system. It's subtle, but it's there. So, it's not like it's a total dead zone in the potentiometer. But RPM rise to pedal movement is the most muted I've ever seen in any car I've owned. But just in that first 5% or so. Maybe 1/4 inch of movement. That would be fine, I'll just push harder faster, except once out of that first muted zone, it's like it jumps from 5% to 15% instantly. Makes it hard to take off smoothly. I have to really really really be paying attention and trying REALLY hard to not get it to go from nothing to 15% in .025 seconds.

Thought? Opinions? Snide remarks?

Mine has the same behaviour as well. It’s noticeable first thing in the morning. I haven’t paid that much attention once it is at operating temperature. Sport mode seems to wake it up and throw me back in my seat.

I’ve replaced plugs, air filter, transmission fluid and filter, rear differential fluid in the last year. I haven’t hooked up a scanner to check pedal position and throttle percentage yet but have that capability with HP Tuners.

I haven't gotten around to hooking up the tuner yet. I do want to check that out as a trouble shooting step. Seems this is a pretty common issue. I am going to have the internal valve body seals in the tranny replaced next Monday, along with the fluid/filter. It does feel like to me there is a small possibility there is a little bit of a lazy hookup on the trans side. Like RPM's have to raise a bit off idle before the trans really reacts. This trans in the BMW's and some other cars seem to have an issue with internal pressure leaking around the seals when they get older. My exotic mechanic suggested it, from his experience with these trans. I'm not holding my breath, but I'll report back. Also having the rear diff fluid changed while he has it in the air for the tranny.

I'm curious if the DBW kit from FD fixes this. Anyone out there have the same symptoms and can report how it changed, if at all, after the DBW install?
