So I recently discovered that I have a slight coolant smell in the cabin with the heat on, obviously the heater core is at least seeping. I have checked all around (under dash, under carpet, and below floor fuse box) and have not found a drop anywhere, so I will be keeping a close eye on it. Rather than pre-emptively replacing the core, especially with such a small leak, I was thinking about using Gold Eagle AlumAseal. I have seen this stuff work miracles on radiators and heater cores for years, and have 100% confidence that it will seal my core since the leak is so minute. My only concern is having this stuff coarsing through the rest of my cooling system, in fact I want nothing to do with it, so here is the plan...
1. Find a "donor car" IE. one that I don't immediately care about the cooling system of to use.
2. Thoroughly flush the cooling system of that vehicle and replace with only water.
3. Remove heater core connections for both vehicles, and connect Maserati heater core ONLY to donor car cooling system.
4. Add AlumAseal to donor car cooling system and run car for three or four hours.
5. Disconnect donor car from Maserati Heater Core and allow to drain.
6. After everythign is thoroughly cooled, flush Maserati Heater Core with fresh water.
7. Reconnect Maserati Core to Maserati cooling system, and hopefully the seep will be gone...
Does anyone have any advice, comments, suggestions, or criticism to what I plan to attempt?
