I have a part # from FM of Atlanta -

part # 14591987 Fixing Button per FM Atlanta. It cross references over to the side fasteners for the non leather headliner? so we'll see what they are when I get them - unfortunately in about a week as special order. I ordered 12 so if they're the ones I'll send you some if you need them.

retainers are not what we're looking for, as feared...

I received the retainers and they are not what Lorenz-GS06 has pictured nor what we need. Strike out. What I received look mostly like this:

I honestly could not wait so I kept looking for a solution in my shop - I found some retainers that measured 9.4mm across the widest part of the retainer which was a good tight fit in the approx 8mm female hole in the roof section. Unfortunately I don't have the part number (they were either a Porsche or BMW part) for it but they were green. I could not get the drivers side end retainer lined up with the roof structure hole so had to leave it out - I made an s shaped clip from 16 ga tin about 3/4" wide and approx 4" long which attached at it's top end into an opening in the side structure and at the bottom end secured the edge of the headliner by folding it over the headliner edge. this will keep the headline in place. I installed the rest of the interior (I couldn't hardly walk that nite) and took an old waffle pattern mattress pad and stuffed the rear fender interior voids with pieces of it. I also put 12 sq feet of dynamat throughout the rear half of the interior and it is very quiet in the cabin - no more boominess like before even with my muffler delete tips. I wish you luck in getting yours securely installed. pm me if you need more info on the s clips I made.

I installed my leather headliner today. It was a pretty easy and the whole job was about 3 hours taking my time. The rear back seat and side panels did not have to come out. First, the seat belt trim piece comes out, then trim above the door, sunvisors, map light has to come out. The trim around the rear window has to be loosened up at the top once you get the other trim out the way., then you can have clearance. I will most likley be selling my gray headliner and sunvisors which are like new.
