Hello,

Happy to announce that I picked up my 2014 Q6 GTS with 52,000 miles.

After having it for about a week, I’ve noticed that when it goes from park into 1st or reverse, or from second gear to 1st or from 1st to 2nd there is a bit of a “thud”. It appears to be coming from the back. At first, I thought it was from the exhaust, which at times has a little bit of crackle from the exhaust when going down the gears. But then I realized it’s probably the differential or maybe the gearbox? Every other gear is smoother as silk, weather going up or down. I’m wondering if this is a common issue or if it’s something I need to have looked at? I will say it’s not major thud I just hear it , but nonetheless I hear and feel it. The car was bought from a Maserati dealership and they gave it a clean bill of health before I bought it but of course being a secondhand car that’s 10 years old it comes with no warranty. It also has a strong service history. Maybe it’s some else? Maybe service the transmission?

Any help would be appreciated.

Does this only happen when it's cold and goes after ten mins? I've just the gearbox oil and diff oil changed on mine and am about to collect it, I had symptoms similar to this so I'll let you know the result

I spent a while searching on this forum and if you plan on keeping the car it's advised to do the gearbox oil and diff oil (assuming it's not been done)

Thanks. Seems to happen all the time not just when it’s cold. Maybe I will get a service done on the diff and gearbox and see if that helps. My mechanic checked the diff oil and said it was very clean and not smell, as well as the drive shaft and said there’s nothing obvious wrong. But he can hear and feel the thud too. But he’s not sure whats causing it! Hopefully its not the transmission or differential gone bad and one of them needs replacing. I might have to take it to a dealer for diagnostics since my mechanic doesn’t know what the issue is. He is normally really good as he’s worked on my others car over the years - Porsche, Mercedes and Jags.
Let me know if your cars any better after the service.
