I think some of the dealers were getting that...It has some to do where you live..I'm in Atlanta and it is relatively cheap here..We have had 2 cars lately that the people lived in California, but bought them here..They wanted everything done on the car done in Atlanta...Jason

The updated parts are of a different design so if you have them you should be fine from here on out..There is no magic additive no matter what.. Jason

You need to make sure they are replacing them with the updated units..They look much different and have a large clock spring on the front of them.. Obviously, the oil needs to be changed regularly to make sure all the components stay in good shape...There is no snake oil that will fix noisy variators...Jason

One question is, how good of a mechanic are you? I did mine myself. It did take me me three tries, a lot of talking with Maserati mechanics, and being clued in on a couple of procedures. I do have a lot of mechanical experience, so some is essential, but never as a pro. But, third time was the charm! I did make my own variator removal tool to remove the variator from the camshafts. (A milled Craftsman socket) Having to do it 3 times, I got the last time around down to about 20 hours, which I did in stages over a 3 day period . . . but you can do it! It is tedious, but you can save a TON of money if you just take your time!

No offense and I can appreciate you making your own tool...Pretty cool...I'm not sure having to take apart a car engine three times in order to fix something is a glowing endorsement for a DIY interested in doing this this particular repair..The timing of the camshafts on all makes is pretty critical and you can easily mess something up or just end up being off enough that it runs fine, but sets a check engine light for a camshaft error.. It is all coming apart again at that point...I can appreciate your patience for sure....Jason
