Challenging license plate light

The bulb-out indicator came on. I checked around and saw the license plate lamps both out. I pulled them and found the spring clip in one was broken loose from the plastic holder. I fixed it and installed new bulbs. No joy! No voltage to the license plate lights. I cannot find a listing for this light in the fuse chart.

I guess I'll check each fuse with a meter in the front and back of the car before beginning to disassemble the trunk as a prelude to removing the entire frikkin wiring harness. Sorry. Just venting.

Does anybody have any ideas?

I don't think there is a fuse for your specific problem. I would guess that you have either a wiring problem (likely where the wire bundle follows the hinge assy) or a bad IGE module.

Don't count out a fuse being the culprit!
There are a few fuses that control quite a few electric functions.
As an example, about a year and a half ago my radiator fans stopped working. I checked all fuses but I couldn't see any blown. Giving up, I took it to the dealership. The tech discovered a "partially" blown fuse, replaced it, and voila they worked again.
The reason I shared that story is this,
To take any guesswork, and avoid timely
Remove and replace labor, I swapped out all my fuses to L.E.D. fuses.
To illustrate how easy it is to check fuses now, look at posting #91 Led mini fuse kits - Page 10

Hopefully it's just a blown fuse!

Good luck!

Rommel--I had same prob, but MORE. No inside trunk light; no license plate lights. As you stand behind car, with trunk UP, you will see "flexi" conduit coming from main part of car and going into trunk lid (I think). ANYWAY, wires in that bundle (maybe 3 or 4) were corroded and broken. Common, due to the way conduit moves as trunk lid goes up/down. Need to get in there and rewire/clean/reconnect to get reliable power. Also be sure to leave sufficient "play" so there is NO binding. Also, I switched to LED lights inside trunk and for licence plate.

Hey y'all

My issues were as EHT described. I got tired of trying to troubleshoot it, so I brought it to Maserati Atlanta. They figured it out after a couple of days. They re-wired and reinforced the whole assembly. The bill was less than $250. Honestly worth it to me, it was bugging the hell out of me....."Bulb Out Light" staring me in the eyes.

My Bulb Out indicator has been on (only with headlights switched on) since I got my GS Spyder three or four years ago. I've checked every bulb I can see, including plate lights, side-markers, etc., and they all seem to be illuminated, so I'm not sure what it thinks is broken. I just ignore it, but would prefer to have the actual intended alerting functionality...

In much earlier threads, there was some discussion about Euro-sourced bulbs having different resistance than the American equivalents, so sometimes a working replacement bulb would still indicate as bad. I would hope that Maserati really didn't design that close of a tolerance on the sensor circuit(s) since all that the sensor(s) really need to do is check for an open circuit, which will be dramatically different from the current/voltage for one or more working bulbs in a loop.

Hello all,
I am reviving this thread rather than start a fresh one for the same problem.

I had the "bulb failed" warning light come on, and found the left-side licence plate bulb not to be lighting. However the bulb itself works fine, the bulb connections are good, nothing is loose. Checking with a voltmeter showed no power to be arriving at the left-side licence plate light. The right-side one works fine so I thought I would be able to solve the problem simply by removing the trim from inside the trunk and connecting the right-hand power cable to left-side too. Given that removing the trim is not easy (all those "buttons"), I did a dry run by connecting together the two power cables externally. This made BOTH bulbs work, BUT the "bulb failed" light is still on.
Any ideas as to how that can be, please?
And suggestions for my next step?
Many thanks,
Tony

I see you've been working on your American accent ?

The IGE module will still see the left side fail because of bad wiring. It can't actually see the lights, so cheating to get the light on won't extinguish the warning. It is also possible that you have a failed IGE module, but as the trunk lid wiring is known to fail, I would start there.

If I recall correctly, I did put a zip tie on it, but I did not cinch it down. I left it really loose so all it would do is keep the loom from moving too far out of position.
