Car is 2007 Automatica/ZF - 150k kms
I'm in the habit of scanning my car pretty regularly and lately I have observed crazy readings for Ambient Air Temperature with a commensurate P0073 Ambient Air Temperature Sensor (Above Threshold).
The value would be between 140 and 160 degrees. The dash display is always fine and I think the sensor is ok as I artificially heated it up with a mug of hot water and I observed a 5degC increase on the dash, the scanner had also reverted back to a matching reading (i.e. the P0073 code was gone and the dash reading and OBD reading matched.
Car has been running a bit poorly lately - even rougher 1st gear pickup when cold, and uneven acceleration when cold
So the basic questions is could the crazy temp reading cause any kind of poor running? I see a bit of chatter over on the Coupe/GT forum on this - there's a theory that the temp reading goes to the HVAC module first then it's relayed onto the ECU from there and that's where it's getting goofed up (at least that's my interpretation of the theory)
Side note: I have always had the P0430 and also occasional misfire codes for cyl 1 and 3 as long as I've had the car - Have done all the usual stuff - checked injectors, replaced plugs, moved around coils, no difference. And the misfire codes could disappear for weeks at a time - I only mention this for a complete picture - the misfire codes didn't come up tonight with the Ambient Air Temp code
Sometimes I think once the CAN Network Plausibility code is there there's no point reading much into anything else - that crazy?
