Hallo Maserati fans,

I am a big fan of Maserati and glad owner of GT 4.2 for 2 years.

One aspect that I consider every 2-3 months. The spring season starts later this year (we know why....) and in the next days I will start my enjoyment as the country is opening.

Let me briefly describe:

1. I start the engine. It is cold, naturally.

2. I drive (normally). It reaches 90 degrees (C) - which means half of the scale.

3. I drive and the temperature is going down and stays at the level as in the attached picture. It stays there all the time. When I faster or higher RPM it increases to 90 (C) to decrease shortly to the same level as attached.

My question - is it normal? I was talking to a few people and there are 2 groups - one saying normal, the other - not normal as it should keep 90 all the time.

Do not know what to think as this is 1st Maserati I have and all other cars (mostly BMWs) - the temperature was unchanged as soon as it reached half of the scale.

I don't know if you have the possibility to test in city or heavy traffic, but on my MQP V I have the following behavior = starts cold of course - goes to 90 (C) and stays there when I drive in the city traffic. Tends to go down one or 2 "ticks" when driving on the highway at good speed, if weather is not hot. Typically 140kph at night seems to be the car's "happiest" conditions. Back to the city traffic = back to 90 (C).
I had much less variation before I had my cooling liquid changed and replaced by "official" liquid at Maserati dealership, so I assumed that this should be the normal behavior.

Thank you! The prevailing opinion based on your experience - it is normal.
In fact - as I purchased the car used - all liquids are changed (cooling liquid is Motul now).

Best regards.

Or both cars don't have thermostats that are working correctly?? The job of the thermostat is to regulate engine temperature not let it move all around as that effects emissions..Jason

It is fairly easy and they do stick open like that and cause the car to run slightly cool...When it is below 90 trying running the heat on full blast at idle and see if drops down another tick to confirm...Jason

I am taking mine from winter sleep this weekend. Will update.
But as far as I remember- for sure it goes down (below 90) when driving. When driving in the city / traffic jams - normally it keeps 90. When there is longer drive (longer I mean - 3-5 minutes) it gets below 90 - as the picture attached. It is fluctuating then. Which is unusual for me as all my cars keep half of the scale when they reach. In highway - Maserati is all the time like in the attached picture (below 90).

It should not be so far below the 90 mark...maybe only 1 tick down if the weather is cool. Try changing the thermostat and see as it appears to be sticking. I am guessing previous owner didn't flush the coolant every year.
