Ok I needed a new battery and searched the forums and did not find much info......so here's what I learned.
I put in an Optima redtop 34R...R stands for reverse ...as in pos and neg...since our pos is on the right. Fits well in my '05 Gransport....$237 at Autozone. The Optima does not require venting...Many others do.

I do miss my Quattroworld URS4 forum...seems like everyone on there is an engineer with very pertinent and detailed, to the point info. So thanks for some of our informative guys like Jason...who suggests after replacing the battery turn key to position 2, dash lights on, let set for a minute or more to reset stuff then start and run til warm, turn off and try key fob buttons.

Turn the power switch to left of the battery to off, back on when finished. Disconnect neg terminal first, connect it last. You will see a block of box fuses in the way to lift the battery out. You do not need remove moldings to get the battery as some have thought. There is a nut on the right side of the plate those fuses are on, remove it, the other side of the plate is slotted in, simply turn the block of fuses til you can get it loose and then have room to get the battery out.

You will need to put in your radio code again when done. Easy enough....don't let the dealer rape you again for something easy we can all do, unlike setting the PIS on your clutch.

From my reading it sounds like the following will fit....

Interstate MTP-91, MTP 48 H6
Odyssey 34R, PC1500 or PC1700
Napa Bat9848
ACdelco 94RAGM
Duralast 48-DL
DieHard 33348
Energizer 48-L
Autocraft 48/91-1

Might want to confirm fitment, size of the battery. I found not many actually spec a battery for our car...Autozone did not have our car in their computer and other search functions online I found showed nothing for our car.

Best all,
Curtis

Thanks, not a fan of some of those cheap batteries...If you don't vent them then they gas real bad and eat up crap...Just had a Jaguar XF with the whole trunk pan eaten up from a parts store battery...Only 2 brands I can get behind here are Interstate and ACDelco....I want to say Johnson Controls makes AcDelco batteries and they are pretty darn good...Duracrap, Autocrap, etc...are just junk...I replace a lot of batteries so I know what I replace....Jason

Yeah, I have never been a fan..They only come in so many sizes and don't always fit the battery trays so well, but I have never put one in a Maserati....Jason

Jason, can you confirm the model for an Interstate that properly fits and vents in Spyder/GS? I am switching mine back from an Optima to a maintenance free Interstate (if possible).

campipilot, I thought Optima was the way to go a couple years back. Switched the Mas and the Boat to Optima, and the Optima left me stranded in the boat. Worked great for a couple seasons then went straight from working to totally dead and incapable of charging. Almost like someone turned a switch off in the battery. I thought I was smart - I purchased their charger/maintainer to make sure I was properly maintaining their battery(ies). Since then I have found out most aren't fans of Optima.

+1...Those were all the rage for a while, but I never found them to be anything special at all....Like I said all my vehicles and boat use Interstate or AcDelco.....I want to say a a M138 take a MT-48 or H6 battery.....Jason

Way back my business sold deep cycle batteries. Customers would balk at our price saying they could buy a Diehard (then all the rage) for much less. Throwing specs around was a tough sell. Then the manufacturers rep suggested I get a bathroom scale and a Diehard. When the customer would bring up the Diehard we would simply put one on the scale and then put our (same dimension) battery on the scale. The difference was amazing. More lead = better battery.

My point is that I always compare the weight for any given size battery.

A number of years back, Optima changed ownership. I'm thinking it was like 10 or 12 years ago, maybe a bit longer.

My long departed 308GT4 had an Optima that was installed around 2000. It lasted about 7 years, despite being accidentally deep discharged a few times. Bought another, which was after the ownership change. Lasted 2 years. Switched to an ACDelco, which was still in the car when I sold it a few years ago - so it was in there for around 5 years at that time.

Golf cart: I have a gas engine golf cart which uses a standard automotive battery to start it. I've had the cart for around 20 years. It's on it's second ACDelco battery, installed 13 years ago. It is getting a bit tired, but it still starts.

Hans.

Thanks for your thoughts on the optima guys. It’s too late for me now. I guess I’ll see how mine does over time.

Man, no love at all for 6 pack car battery...It's a car battery..If it dies then get another...No biggie....J

After over two years on the Optima battery I have to completely agree I have had two that have completely stopped taking a charge suddenly. Now AutoZone warrantied both and I’m on my third one but it is a hassle.

That will work...Recognize that Die Hard is just a name...I would prefer and Interstate or AC Delco, but that will work...Jason

Scotty knows best!

BTW...I would never quote this fella...I don't know his background, but I highly doubt he was a successful auto technician...The guy is a total dipshit and just a Youtube personality...He is most likely a failed mechanic or got fired from a NTB store...God rewards the dumb so he has been able to make a living with his silly videos....Jason
