Yes, most top out at 93 and that is fine...Couple of ways of rating octane ...RON and MON methods so this why the difference..Best I remember they use MON and in the US we use RON...Hence the difference... If you are curious.
Jason

Reading the owners manual, it says to use no less than 95 octane.

Don't most stations top out at 93? I think Sunoco has 95 available
My guess is the manual is referring to RON rating which is the European standard. Here in the US, we use the AKI rating, which is (RON+MON)/2. US 93 octane premium under the AKI rating is in fact 97 on the RON rating, and is above spec.

I believe ( I could be wrong though ) that in the entire US there are only six or seven states where you can find 92 or 93 octane ( AKI rating ) , everywhere else the highest is 91. There are a very few gas stations which sell 100 octane , calling it “ racing fuel “ , and which you can mix with the rest of your 91 gas to bring the octane up , but 1 ) at least in California those stations are maybe one out of a hundred, so you’ll spend a talk of gas looking for one , and 2) expect the price per gallon to be about $ 8.

haha you are wrong. I'd say they're are 25+ states with 92+ as their "premium." That being said, US 91 Octane AKI is 95.3 RON, so it's still within spec.

In that case I stand corrected, even though I did say that I could be wrong 0:).. I was reading up on 93 octane a while back and vaguely recall there were just a handful of states with that, so I jumped to the conclusion that 92 must be just as rare ..I guess not :wink2:

Speaking of fuel ..my wife just got back from a two day business trip to Atlanta and said that she saw stations wlth gas below $ 3 /gallon ..for premium ! :surprise: I told her she must have been hallucinating, but she insisted that was the really the case.
Is the highest grade 92 or 93 in Ga ?

Yes, this is true..We have 93 octane as well. No poo in the streets or tents cities so we have that going on as well..:wink2:...lol...Jason

Whoa boys, I wasn't slapping him in the dick or anything, I consciously prefaced my response with "haha" so it would not have been taken to heart. How else should I have responded? Spoiler alert ANY corrective response can be taken as an ass chewing if it's the prerogative of the recipient or an onlooker to receive it as such. That being said, how would you have responded? Lol

It seams octane varies by state. Why? I’ve noticed elevation has something to do with it. So I have to ask, does an increase in elevation reduce the octane required.

You are correct. Higher altitude = less atmospheric pressure. Less atmospheric pressure = less compression. Less compression = not only less power, but also less proclivity to preignition (knock), which means you can get away using fuel with a lower rating on the Anti Knock Index (AKI) which is how all US fuel is rated.

All this shit goes right out the window when you are using any type of forced induction FYI.

That makes sense...I think I'm wrong there...J

Your fine...He can take it...J
Indeed, I subscribe to the “sticks and stones ...” adage . :wink2: Besides, this forum’s members are about as level headed and as classy as it gets out there, even the most contentious arguments have been mild by comparison to some other forums ( not to mention any specific ones but starts with Por and ends with che ) where hurling insults at one another is not all that uncommon.

Interesting to learn about altitude effect on power, I never gave that factor much thought, though it makes perfect sense.
Hey, you guys in Denver ...your GTs are slower than ours !! :laugh2:>:)

I don't care what the minimum allowable is ............. I will always use the highest available Octane at the pump for my GT.

These cars are not FIATS ..... put the best in and she'll treat you well for a long time ..... I hope!
