passenger seat automatic tilt forward not working

Hey all,

I have a 7-yr old who jumps in the back quite often. I always have to ask him to come in through the driver's seat, since it's the only one that tilts forward automatically when I pull the lever. The passenger's seat doesn't do it. It simply stays put.

What am I missing here?

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding you. When I pull the level upwards I manually tilt the seat forward. The entire seat will then automatically slide forwards, is it this function that fails as opposed to not being able to tilt the seat?

Depending on the age of your car, it could be the easy out/in switch has failed. Take a look at a similar thread concerning a Ferrari 612 (I've owned one of these in the past and there's a similarity to the Maser GT).

That's correct. It won't slide automatically after I manually tilt the seat, like it does in the drivers seat.

I just puchased it last week. I'll bring it in for them to fix it at the dealer shop. I'm sure it'll be ok.

That's correct. It won't slide automatically after I manually tilt the seat, like it does in the drivers seat.

There is a "reset" for this. I can't remember offhand what it is but my dealer told me over the phone how to get it working again. Worth a call to save a drive there.

System initialization
Following any power cut-out (e.g.,
after using the battery master switch
or dead battery), check the seats
to ensure that they are operating
properly when the power supply
is available: perform the following
procedures on both seats in the event
of a malfunction.
With the ignition key in position
STOP
(OFF)
and the door on the side of the
seat concerned closed, open the door
and begin the following procedure
within 5 seconds, then complete it
within 10 seconds:
1) forward - STOP
2) backward - STOP
3) forward - STOP
4) backward - STOP
5) tilt the seatback fully forward and
wait until the seat performs two
complete travels (forward and
backward).
6) move the seatback to its normal
upright position.

Do you have to do both seats because my driver seat works the passenger seat doesn't?

I don't believe so. The instructions refer to "door on the side of the seat concerned" so although it says to do both in the event of malfunction, I think that is to indicate that it will work on both sides if needed.

It's ambiguous. Often doing one side will fix that side. I think once I've done it on both.

My Grand Cab driver seat will not tilt forward when either side seat lever is depressed. Passenger side ok.

The seat will not tilt or fold forward, it does not seem to release the catch. Passenger side is okay, just the driver side. Have to load back seat passengers via passenger door.

Seat Problems

I have searched and found nothing about the seat not tilting forward to let passengers in. Lots on electrical problems but none of the physical release before the electrics kick in.

All other seat electrics are okay, just the seat release not working on drivers side.

if it's not releasing mechanically, it's probably the internal latch. only one of mine on the passenger side works (the inside lever works, outside does not)

Sounds like the inside mechanical part of the lever arm is broken, it’s not an electrical issue that he is talking about.

Do you mean you can't get it to tilt by releasing the lever, or once it's tilted, it won't go forward.

Am I the only one here that would really just love a manual slide system like older cars??? The motorized slide is so painfully slow that it makes me twitch waiting on it.

Yeah I’m just answering the previous member’s post asking whether he’s talking about a hardware mechanical issue or the seat moving forward automatically - software issue.
