It appears my drive shaft has failed I get an awful clunking on deceleration and really bad cabin vibrations. I understand the drive shaft cannot be repaired and my be replaced as a single unit is this correct? It's a 2007 Auto with 76,000 km or 47,000 miles is this normal for the drive shaft to fail at such relativity low mileage.

Here my video to show you how the drive shaft failure sound, anyone here replaced their own drive shaft any tips?

Well, it certainly appears you have a driveshaft, there, not a torque tube. As I understand it the torque tube centre bearing (and a torque tube is only found on the DuoSelect or CambioCorsa cars) is NOT generally replaceable (or replaceable easily). Fine, that's moot, 'cause you don't have one. Others, can you please chime-in re replacement of the CV joints (if these are used) or U Joints (if these are used) on this driveshaft?

The diff & ZF auto trans output shaft are not in the same horizontal plane. So the driveshaft is a 2-piece affair with a coupler in the middle. There may be a support bearing (I forget) and each end of the shaft has a u-joint type coupler. On other cars, these joints can be replaced. Check an online parts catalog and see if there are separate parts for these items (Scuderia, Eurospares, for example). If so, the assembly is repairable. You or a reputable tech should determine which is the offending part(s) before assuming all items need replacing. I don't know if I would recommend this project as a DIY. On my BMWs, I never had to dynamically re-balance the driveshaft after such repairs. If that is necessary for these cars, I wonder if a shop would accept just a balance job, versus doing the entire R&R/re-balance job. Good Luck!

No at a real common problem, but anything can break...I would just get a used one and just replace the entire thing...You most likely can't get any parts from Maserati as most manufactures don't offer parts..It shouldn't be that bad to replace for a DIY but it would be a lot easier with a lift for sure. On the ground is gonna suck pretty bad...Jason

**UPDATE** So after some investigation it turns out the drive shaft is not the issue, the problem is stemming from failed engine and transmission mounts. New mounts on order 2 week wait :( and six hours labor to install. And to top things off my radiator has a crack and had started to leak that will also need to be replaced also a 2 week wait for parts plus another 5 hours labor. Loving this Maserati ownership :)
