Update, the Dealership is saying it needs another clutch, but they don't sound like they know exactly what the problem is. I can't put into words how frustrating this is...

No point ragging the dealer mechanics. At this point it's time to get the car back out of there as cheaply as possible and fly Craig in. I think that without a local competent mechanic either the car needs to be shipped out or the right person needs to take a look at it...

Where would Craig do the job?

Sounds like a freakin nightmare in the making...Sorry..Unfortunately, most guys are not gonna want to take on the liability of using that old clutch...I'm giving you an honest opinion from a shop manager...They are gonna want to start over with all new parts..Liability is a big part of auto repair..I'll help you the best I can...Feel free to PM...Jason

I might be able to help with that. If you decide to go that route and depending on what needs to be done, the three of us can work something out.

Picked up the car today, the tech at Sill-Terhar Maserati was actually really cool and knowledgeable. Some of my aforementioned frustration was due to the conveyance of information between the technician and I through the service writer. Ultimately, what was found is that the dealer in WI did not set the PIS at all, and due to the slipping, the disk is glazed. The PIS was adjusted to the max spec 4.5 I believe, and it seems to grab better, but will still slip on a hard launch. I was advised to baby it for a bit to see if it comes back and gets better, otherwise, drive the car as I wish until the clutch fails, as there's 100% of the material remaining, and everything to do with the transmission, pump, and shift hydraulics are in perfect shape. I'm happy with the service and advice I received, and not to bummed as I don't often beat any of my cars off the line, and the clutch grabs perfectly in any other shift.

That would be it, I suspect. And the 4.5 is min, surely not max?

Yes, I worded poorly my interpretation of the adjustment. Kind of like when someone is talking about the thermostat in the house and they say "turn up the air," does that mean increase the duty of the AC and make the house colder, or dial up the temperature, making the air work less?! haha

4.5 seems kinda high, but I'm not questioning the tech. that did it as he drove it and I did not...The lower the # the less slip there is and the more its like an on/off switch....Jason

The tech said 4.5 was the highest he was comfortable going, and it is like an on\off switch, but it was the only way to improve measurably the slipping off the line.

The actual number can vary...There a few different ECU part numbers and you end up with different PIS parameters...I honestly don't pay much attention to the actual number...On level ground, you want the clutch to start to move the car at about 1000-1100 rpm..The more on/off it is then the longer it will last...Slippage is what wears out a clutch and not actual driving...Jason
