Title says it all....noticed this evening (and very rarely off an on before) what sounds like a stuck relay...from behind the passengers side dash area...loud enough that its easy to hear and place...

Please help!

Welp, there are a few relays on that side of the car, upper area, but they're in the engine compartment on the passenger's side... I dunno if you could hear any of them buzzing from inside the car, but there are four of them underneath the plastic shroud on the passengers' side, right in front of the strut that holds the hood up. I would open up the hood & perhaps remove that shroud, if necessary to see if it's any louder... if so, it could be any of those.

There are also literally a dozen of them underneath the passenger's side floorboard - I would think if it truly is a relay and you're hearing it from inside the car, it would more likely to be one of those - could just "sound" like it's coming from behind the dash.

hmmmm.....possibly. If I recall...the recirculate button was pushed...for the HVAC. Maybe the heat was on as well...I will mess around with it tomorrow with that stuff on vs off and see if the sound happens.

There are no relays...buzzers etc in that area. I am 99% certain the noise is coming from the area immediately around the glove box....

I do appreciate your help.

I can't swear that there aren't any in that area - I'm just browsing through the parts diagrams & I don't see any... don't forget, though, sound can resonate - and that compartment under the passenger side floorboards has a small channel that goes up in that direction towards the dash area; so I would definitely play with the heat & a/c, on vs. off, like you were planning to, but if the noise starts & you have an opportunity to pull over & stick your ear down near the floorboard on that side as well as the dash area, do it.

OR... if you're driving by yourself, without a passenger, you could also try opening that floorboard panel & leave it that way & just go about your business... if the sound comes back, you should be able to tell if it's coming from down there if the panel's open. Might sound silly, but if you're sure it sounds like a stuck relay, there's 12 of 'em down there.

I have the same exact issue! Sounds like a relay going on and off for about three seconds. It would usually do this when I am on the highway. Drives me nuts. I never noticed if the HVAC was on or not. I will turn it off the next time it is happening to see if that stops it.

Does it happen when it's about 37 degrees & the snowflake is on your dash?
