Battery models come & go. If you are reading this thread after 2016, re-research. My battery recently checked marginal: It passed some tests; was borderline on others. It starts with full cranking power now but would probably not do well in cold weather. Since Margaritaville is seldom below freezing, I'm not panicked. Yet. No random codes flung or anything like that. Yet. But for some of you in the Northern Hemisphere, winter is coming (for those of you south of the equator, the worst is likely past). Anyway, my research is for the North American market, others may have other alternatives. The North American "best options" for replacement batteries for QPs appear to be:

1) Factory Maserati (FIAMM) AGM; 850 cold cranking amps (CCA); 13.25" L x 7.5" W x 7.5" H; About US$350 + 1 hr labor charge (unless you DIY); 2 year full replacement warranty, nothing after that

2) Interstate MT5-49/H8 AGM; 900 CCA; 13.94" L x 6.94" W x 7.5" H; about US$280 + 1 hr labor charge (unless you DIY); 30-month full replacement warranty

3) Bosch S6-49 (H8/L5) AGM; 850 CCA; 13.94" L x 6.89" W x 7.48" H; about US$220 at local auto parts stores + 1 hr labor charge (unless you DIY); 48 month full replacement warranty PLUS 36 month free roadside assist if you ever need a jump

If you know of others, please chime in.

I just replaced the (original FIAMM?) battery in our 08 QP with an AutoZone H8 Duralast Gold about six weeks ago. So far so good. We have DLGs in our other cars and they've worked well for us. I did the work myself and the battery was somewhere in the neighborhood of $160.

FWIW, my local dealer had suggested an Interstate MTP-48 or MT7-48, which are H6-sized batteries, smaller than the original.

If you do it yourself, save the venting parts in case your new battery needs to be vented as well.

On a lot of European cars the battery tray will take the H6 or H8 battery depending the market.. On cars without as many accessories they use a H6 to save cost...In the US you`ll want to use a H8..It`s larger and has more capacity and the car can sit for a longer period of time without being driven...J

A lot of European shops have World Pac Accounts...It`s wholesale only to the shops, but a shop in your area can order you one so call one and ask them if they can get you one...WP has them in stock and are Bosch distributor...Still like the Interstate better..hope that helps..J

In that case I'll just snag the interstate as it's easer to find locally

This is a very helpful post, thanks. In case it assists anyone down under, I did a lot of research and settled on a Century DIN88ZLMF, which fits just fine in my GC Sport and has identical specs to the OEM battery. But is cheaper (in NZ) and should be more reliable.
