Wanting to get a new car now and had my eyes on the granturismo s for a while now. But with it's very outdated interior tech and a new engine and more power with tech on the way in the update, would it be better to wait until the refresh arrvies?

The Alfieri concept? Lol 2018 is definitely a generous projected release date. Look at their SUV. It was supposed to be the Maserati Kubang concept which debuted in 2003, we still have nothing until the long awaited Levante, and that's not til sometime in 2017.

The Alfieri on the other hand, will only have the V8 in the top of the range model. So just think for a second, would you rather have a decked out GTS (maybe even an MC Stradale/Sportline if that floats your boat), for light years under the price of a V8 Alfieri (possibly even the lesser versions).

Not looking to knock on you, but this was actually a debate I had with myself. Completely satisfied with my GT, I wanted the successor to the GT or something new. Numbers aside, looking at the two side by side, I hands down went with ordering myself a 911 R. That's worth the extra buck IMO. Last naturally aspirated, 3 pedal Porsche.

Either way, best of luck with your search!

Who knows when the new GT will finally arrive? Maserati hasn't released any official images and nobody's sure if the Alfieri will replace the GT or the GT will live on as an updated model. My guess is that Maserati, due to financial trouble, is waiting to see how the Levante SUV sells, before making an official decision on the GT.

One things for sure, you can get some really big discounts on the current GT. However, personally, I would never buy new due to these cars depreciating so drastically. Right now, you could get some amazing deals on the '13-'14 models which are practically identical to the '16-'17 models.

I agree with EnzoWho and PSB103, especially about the depreciation we see in the first couple of years. In Southern California, you can get a nice, low miles GT Sport in the $60k to $80k range... After that initial depreciation, they seem to be holding their value.
My wife has 2014 GT Sport and its an amazing car!! Crap, buy 13/14 GT Sport & a 2007Exec Gt for $95k!!

Welcome to the forum man, its our pleasure to provide advice.

It seems very *very* unlikely that the GT will live on. The engine is not Euro-6 compliant and they cannot be registered after Dec 31 this year.

How can one get a really big discount on the current GT? Just by asking the dealer?

I got a 30% discount, off sticker, on my 2015 GT MC from the dealer by shopping hard on eBay, watching the auctions, then going to the dealer and making an offer on a "new" (unsold) 2015 GT that only had 400 demo miles on it. When I pointed out that I had seen the depreciation that occurs in the first couple of years, and that the 2015 would be a TWO YEAR OLD model in Sept (when the 2017's come out), he caved. I paid $113k for a fully loaded car that carried a sticker price of 160k. But you have to make a ridiculously low offer, then gradually come up to a price you are willing to pay. You cannot just say, "How about giving me 30% off."
And welcome to the forum. I have been an owner and member for only 6 weeks, and have learned a lot from it.

Based on all the news I have read. Maserati official souce said that they will release the very next new car model as the new Granturismo on 2018 ahead of Alfieri. Alfieri was plan to launch in 2016 but due to the poor market especially in China they delay the plan. Granturismo should sit above Alfieri with V8 and Alfieri will 'only' comes with V6 turbo with about 500hp for the top trim. So expect Granturismo has more than 500hp.

Well the Maserati reps are saying the last year of the GT's in its current form is MY17 (2016-2017). The car will be on hiatus for a year mainly all of 2018 and to expect the car in late 2019 as a 2020 model. You never know with Maserati

My feeling is that the Alfieri will come with the same TTV6 that's in the Ghibli S, while the next gen. GT will have the same 3.9L TTV8 that's in the latest QP GTS. I had a feeling that this was the end of the line of the naturally-aspirated V8, but turbo's are the future I guess. The GT's performance should improve with the new engine, but to be anything significant, it still needs to lose a LOT of weight.

I am a graduating student and I am planning to get a car about 6 months from now. It has been a hair splitting decision so far, as it seems I am chasing unicorns. I dont want to give up convertible top. and I am going to wait 6 months from my first job literally to do everything(ventures/trading/etc) so I can hopefully end up geenrating more money that the pit i will dig with buying an expensive car. I am Mech.E. major and hoping to land the first job in 60-70k, but I would need a lot more money.... :'(

With going full retard, I feel that I might be able to go upto 60k in financing a unicorn.

Current problems of unicorns(I hope you all can enjoy a laugh with me):
1. Women and cars, both look better topless. And If i miss this chance in AZ then whole of New Jersey will mock me everyday in nightmares.
2. After giving an arm and a leg for a unicorn, I am not going to have money for any secondary car. So : I 4 seats were needed.
3. Mercedes didnt make any 4 seat AMG from 2009(CLK63) to 2016, whereby they have just made them look ugly as hell.
4. The car cant be a shitbox... If I get fired because it broke down, I will need a lot of lube. :p
5. 2012-2013 Maserati GTC and SL63 AMG are the most realistic options.
6. My brain will never forgive my heart for idiocy of knowing that 4.7Lv8 @450hp is from stone age, no matter how sexy it sounds and how sexy the car is. I might get a hard on but my brain will be limp. Solace doesnt seem good enough that GTC is pretty quick, but 2+2 wont be making 5 anytime...
7. My brain says '12 SL63 is needed big time... Its a priceless possession that I am not going to sell(Would want to keep it till eternity, as of now). Brain is also competing will extra effort in proving itself stupid that SL only has 2 seats. What good is a car if you can't even carry people along(I don't care if they whine more than music system, but GTC has seats, no matter however small.)
8. Contradictions further facepalming the mother of irony: just switch the cars with friends when you have to be adulting, etc.
9. GTC, most people buy bose. And I cant see why no one gets b&W. I would take HK/B&O of SL63 over Bose anyday. Bose may be good for they put their best in the GTC, but it has to be a stark difference to B&W.
10. 2013 for either car would stay just as messed up. GTC will be hard find in 60k, and so is sl63. SL63 loses N/A engine. It makes no sense to even buy that SL anymore with 5.5TT-v8-AMG engine, no matter if it was elevated to a whole new level. Its not a collector thing, and its nothing special. 2013 is as good as 2017 pretty much.
11. Whim Speaking: how about a '12-'13 Jag XKRSc...? Brain: Are you fu**** kidding me? You are a moron!!! You dont even need a such a car so soon. Just wait. And then whole of me succumbs to vicious cycle of reselection of abovesaid again.
12. Best resolve so far seems buying GTC and tuning it. although I dont know how much that engine can handle. I really want as close as I can go to 600HP and 550lbs. need to make power and torque curve comply on <4s 0-60. and 205mph( I know I cant go that fast. but knowing it can, is plenty heart warming.) Besides that, GTC will only need a change of music system to b&W. But then I do get tempted to wait even longer for '14 GTC because of seats that are infinitely sexier.

I think you're looking at the wrong car.

I don't know your full financial situation but being a graduating student, you don't want to start out early in your adulthood years deeply in debt. If I were in your shoes, I would buy something fun and cheap like a Mustang or a Camaro and once your financial situation is stable and going well, you can look for bigger and better things. You also want to consider your long term goals and things like marriage, kids, housing, etc. and save your money and invest accordingly.

All that being said, once again, I still think you're looking at the wrong car. The Maserati GT is a luxury, sport cruiser, not a hot-rodding sports car. It's also not the type of car where you can do a ton of mods on it and expect to turn it into a drag racer. 600hp? lol. Pure fantasy.

Just some friendly advice from a guy who's been there... a short story...Upon graduating from medical school after my first job started (2003) I went out and bought a brand new 2003 Mercedes ML 500 fully loaded (75K!) I barely had enough for the 5K down payment... after the three year lease it was worth approximately 25K! It was probably the worst decision I ever made. I know you are planning to wait 6mo etc but buying a car like this at your stage in life is not only a bad decision but will keep you from saving money for the important things in life. My advice get a nice BMW, Mercedes Audi etc preowned and after your macroeconomy is in order, go for it!

Echoing other thoughts:

1) You are making an incredibly bad financial decision getting into a car like this at your age, with your income. It's highly unlikely any legal venture will materially change your financial situation in the next 6 months.

2) As stated before, the GT is the wrong car for you. it's neither a muscle car, not a sports car, which is what you seem to desire.

3) You would be sooo much better off selecting from a large selection of reliable, cheaper and faster 2 seaters (Mazda, Porsche, Jag, Mustang...,) and then renting a car for those few occasions you need four seats.

Only make an emotional purchase after you've thought it through rationally.

I knows it's ridiculous to spend that much that soon. That's the reason I am planning to wait 6 months to establish more sources of income besides just the salary. ?
Hmm...I was in your position 9 years ago.

Graduated with my M.E. degree and ready to head off to my first job. I finally bought something about a year after I graduated. I wanted to make sure I had stabilized myself before I dove head first into a car payment. You'd be surprised how much of a sticker shock it can be / how much anxiety it can cause you when you wonder "can I truly afford this?". In the end, you probably can. By the way, if you're a heavy drinker every weekend, that's going to be a big hit to your after tax income.

Anyway, forget about the 4 seat thing. I almost never carry anyone in the back. Just me, or me + 1. But, if you go strictly for a convertible (ala SL), you seriously restrict yourself in bringing stuff home. Plan on going to Ikea? You won't in the SL. Being able to put the back seats down and put something long in the trunk helps significantly.

I suggest you look at used AMG's, they are great cars yet drop like a rock in value. My first after-college car was a C55 AMG that I picked up 4 years old with 46k miles. (I still have the car actually, now with 193,000 miles). Convertibles are nice, but you're going to be limited in what you can do with them. Trust me. If convertible is very important to you, then get a more-reasonable daily driver and a reasonable convertible. But now you've got two car payments, two insurance payments, and two registration payments. A buddy of mine picked up a brand new STi for cheap, and it's a great all around car. You could do that, and pick up a used CLK63 convertible for the price of this Maserati. And this Maserati won't be as nice (in "total") as the two other cars combined.

Honestly, before you drop $60+k on a Maserati, I'll sell you both my C55 and SL65 and you'll have two cars that are better. A little older, but better.

Also, if you think you're going to get into other financial investments, I hope you can, but I doubt you will. You'll be surprised how much time "setting up life" can take. New job, new apartment, new bills, new friends, new fun times, etc. Enjoy life and what it brings, especially once you've just left college. Don't worry as much about bringing in additional income; worry about the new income you just gained.

If you need more advice, just ask :nerd::thumbsup:

Being Honest, The concern you guys have shown is so heart warming. <3 I wish I could Hug each of you as you have been so generous with your kindness like big brothers. Not that I am gay, but actually, a serial-hugger.Lol.

Also, I really loved the suggestions you guys gave. I dont take any offense when elders advise, and I count it their right to almost criticise when needed. God knows how many more stupid things I would have done if my Sister, Mom, Dad weren't always there to help me better my choices and keep me in check. So Far, Each suggestion seems completely valid and genuine, except their will be the kid in me wanting more, just like you guys deal with younger people in your circle. So to deal with realistic restrain and complete honesty, I would like to point out, I actually seems like a good idea to go for a CLK63, albeit old, but as it delivers on every front and can be bought for less than 1/3rd of a maserati. I would basically be hitting myself with a shovel everytime if I decided to be greedy contemplating at any moment "wanting a Maserati" during my ownership of CLK. I guess than to make up for lost utility of actually needing a "responsible adulting car" I can keep my honda accord. It's a used car, from 2012, and has been overly reliable, and disinteresting at the same time. But nothing too cringeworthy besides the fact that I get 12mpg on it and shit acceleration.(MPG owing to me treating the gas as an on off switch almost.) In this manner it probably wont be hard at all to wait till I actually feel confident in shelling out on a nice car.

That said, all of you want the best for me, and here's to hoping I can be that kid who makes it possible and realistic to be in position to directly afford a maserati within 6 months. Will need all the wishes for that. :). Also, I didn't quite understand the "heavy drinker on weekend" comment, but I would add: "It's thursday 4:21 AM Here in AZ. I am sitting in a University Building, With 3 cans of Stella in my backpack, and an Opaque Sippy Cup that has been hiding the 7 cans consumed thus far since Wednesday 11AM. My group presentation involving 6 people, received compliments from 3 faculty member specifically on the part presented and prepared by me. STaying consistently 1 to 1.5 beer drunk is pretty much a factor that I count extraordinarily vital to my exceptional ability to tackle thing beyond what I otherwise did in past." Long story short, I will leave it open to interpretation, including the negative ones.
On a funny note:
"I said I was an Addict,
I didn't say I had a problem."
