All of those are beautiful interiors, they just take too much maintenance.

The paddles are very comfortable 100% better than the OEM.

We did not disconnected the battery, but it's wise to do so. Important not to have the key in the ignition while changing them.

Next item in the agenda is to order the upper door trim in Carbon.

I like it. Has a little more of that old people luxury Jaguar feel to it though. The exterior needs to be "Hunter Green." ;) Perfect for a real estate agent. hehe
Definitely, this one looks really great, love the mix of brown and beige with black accent like that. Mine is kind of similar but with the dash in black. I've always had black and silver cars with black and grey interiors, it's really great to have a change for a change. It's on my album but for a reason I'm not sure about I've been cut off from posting attachments, (I"m pretty sure they have all been M-rated so far).

Thought it might be fun to start a new "Hey, Show Us Inside!" thread so we could give this patient gentleman his gummy thread back and get to see inside people's cars.

Actually the exterior is Giallo Granturismo (bright yellow) - and yes I think it does have a much more "old people luxury feel" as compared to a black interior which seems much younger.

I was looking up some new solutions to the gummy parts, i notice the stickiness came in the areas where I was using leather conditioner (minor effects: dash vent, cigarette lid, door lock). Does anyone know where to get the cigarette lid section? Does it have to be ordered through Maserati NA?

Gotta share my interior :D

Also searching the forum to find where to get the wheel inserts as mine lost the paint, I didn't realize the inserts are plastic.

I had the same problem with the stereo knobs becoming gummy on my Boxster S. Couldn't find anything to clean them that didn't make me concerned about the end result. Finally just ordered new knobs from Porsche and the dealer put them on for free. From reading the similiar experiences with other high end cars, it is a surprisingly wide spread problem given the cost of the cars.

Anyone able to provide step by step on removing the steering column cover so I can put it on my workbench to de-gummify- I was gonna start unscrewing stuff till I read in this thread about removing the airbag first?!?! That made me nervous. Or is that just to get to the paddles (which I don't pan to mess with- for now, lol.)

I found that using heat ( a hand hair dryer, 140 degree F output) made it much easier - still not real easy - to get the sticky crap off the air vents. By the way, two of the four dash vents pop out and two of the four do NOT (don't remember the details - I remember reading it on this forum somewhere) - so I did mine in place. But I'm afraid to use the heat on the steering cover because heat and electronics aren't a great mix to begin with and I don't know whats in the steering column - but I'm sure it will cost a boatload to replace if I cook it.

Lot's of good suggestiobns on repair but what about prevention? I use McGuires Gold Class leather cleaner/ conditioner all over and it has not cuased these problems...yet. Should I stop using it?? What is safe?

Has anyone ever actually figured out what causes this? I am starting to think that it's a reaction to the PH levels in some peoples' skin. My car is constantly garaged, never parked in the sun, the buttons have never seen any cleaner BUT on the passenger side (the wife seat) I've begun to notice a hint of a sticky issue on the window button. I always use my knuckle to raise lower the window on my side. Any other theories?

you might want to check to see if antifreeze is not leaking from the heater core. If it is it will have a "sweet smell" when you first turn on the air or heat. Have you noted a slick mist on the inside surface of the windshield (windscreen)?

Yeah- nice try, blame us "Sorry dear but the guys on the Maserati forum say your ph is ruining my interior so until you change your body chemistry you can't come with me" lol

Its not leaking antifreeze (or at least its very unlikely). You'd smell it,and it wouldn't just be on the part of the vent that faces the cars interior. I know the last post didn't mention that but I've had this in my Spyder and it wasnt gummy on the inside. This gummy plastic is a known issue. Reading back thru recent posts-
I suppose it could be a leather conditioner/interior cleaning products issue issue. But I'm not a fanatic about cleaning and I've had this pop up at various times on various parts of the interior and it seems to have little correlation to the timing of my infrequent cleanings. I now have it on the cowl over the steering column by the way - anyone have experience removing the airbag? or any airbag- I have this lovely vision of it exploding in my face? I want to pull the piece off and clean it on my workbench, but a post on replacing the paddle shift levers mentioned having to pull the airbag out to do any disassembly of the steering column.)
The stuff seems to me to be some sort of coating on the plastic, and apparently the coating degrades into goop. And to whoever asked about removing it having an impact on color - the black color is in the plastic underneath - not in the sticky stuff. As near as I can tell the sticky stuff is more or less clear/uncolored.

Lorenz, I have had this problem with other vehicles. Thee vents usually get sticky first when there is a small leak. Remember this is a high pressure system so a minute leak of antifreeze will make things stick. A radiator shop can run a pressure test on the system to check it.

One theory I heard is that whoever is making these parts is not letting the plastic cure long enough before putting the black coating on. This could explain why some get the problem, while others seem to have no issue.
