WTB: 2006 GranSport Spyder

Hello all,

After selling my beloved Alfa Spider Veloce Ce #88, I have decided to try and find a Maserati GS Spyder. It was suggested I start a thread announcing as much, so here goes...


Characteristics/qualities/options/etc I am looking for in no particular order:

1. Colors - Rosso Mondiale (leaning toward black, but open to tan interior) or Nero (black or tan interior)
2. Low mileage (less than 15k)
3. Full service history available
4. Cosmetically, blemish free
5. Tubi exhaust (I think)
6. No mechanical or electrical issues
7. Maseratilife board-member a huge plus - in all likelihood it will have been pampered
8. I prefer a stock/OEM Spyder (with the exception of maybe Tubi and DBW)
9. As I am in CT, the closer the Spyder the better
10. Auditorium 200 sound system a plus (again, pref OEM stereo vs. aftermarket)
11. Interior piping a plus
12. Full leather
13. Matching Red calipers on a Rosso Mondiale Spyder a plus

I am in no rush and willing to wait it out, but honestly, I am ready to pull the trigger and will do so if/when the right one comes along.

Thanks in advance for everyon's help and advice. And be gentle w/me, I am coming from the Alfa world and all the Maserati "stuff" is quite new to me ;)

Craig, check these 4 out. Obviously none are particularly nearby you, but all seem to be quite clean / low mileage (especially the black one with 2 tone leather interior, rare btw)

MGMSL always carries high quality cars (hence their lofty asking prices). The black one with 1,900 miles on it has a unique two tone leather interior if it floats your boat. Ask Foreign Cars Italia what's up with the Rosso Bologna PPG Paint Sticker on the bonnet of their car, was the car re-painted? If so, negotiate them down on this for lack of original paint. Otherwise, it's a bonnafide LE Spyder with Grigio Mercury wheels and a contrasting interior.

Now you've got 4 leads to get into a bidding war for your business. I like the idea of getting the AZ car for a song (private seller) and having the local dealer make sure the car is in good shape and not have a million issues because it has not been driven much in the last 6 years. It'd almost be liking getting a new car!

All well over $50k. What are they smokin? IMO only the specials (MCV, 90th Anniversary) are worth those prices

Agreed, asking prices are all high, but these are the cars that match Craig's specs. Now he's gotta get in there and get the prices down to reality. Multiple cars means he can have them fight for his business. 2 are dealer cars and 2 are private sales.

The private sales guys know that dealerships won't give them more than $40k for their car, so I think he's got a lot of leverage with them. MGMSL and FCI sell many of these cars and are well aware of the going rate for these things.

Remember, asking prices are just "asking" prices...deals happen well below and are not advertised.

Thanks for the leads and continued advice/info.

FYI - the unadvertised "buy it now" price for the eBay Spyder in PHX was $60k - auction ended w/the a high bid of $46 (reserve not met).

2006 spyder

Can someone please verify, friend of mine went to Mahein friday, Dealers Auction, and a Red/tan spyder came up with 12k on the clock and it went for 47k he was trying to obtain for 45k, so the market is pretty good for GS Spyders only 100 made. I also believe color and condition will entice people to step up for the right car ! I know I do !

There were way more than 100 Spyders made, perhaps only a 100 in red/tan. As a point of comparison, I just bought a well-optioned, one-owner 2006 GS Spyder for $40k on eBay as the sole bidder. The dealer had been advertising it retail at around $47.8k. It has 27k miles. Lower mileage units go higher. Cuoio on black.

2006 production

Steve, you are one of the lucky owners of an 06 GS spyder only 100 came to the US out of a total 500, the balance being GS coupes. The MC victory on the other hand 180 worldwide only 50 to the US. My spyder has under 5k miles and I would not accept under 50k if I put 30k miles my price would drop accordingly. These cars in my area sell extremely quick because a new spyder is 160k .So cherish this car you've done well unless you need a new clutch.I just spent $7500 on my QP at 36,000 miles, clutch was still good but the TO was out and I decided to upgrade!

I was visiting local Maserati dealer about 2 weeks ago, and one of the sales rep. told me that " 500 , 2006 Gran Sports were imported to US, less than 100 of these had LE package, and once the mileage goes over 20K, there is significant drop in price. Pristine , very low mileage cars are hard to come by and demand a higher price."

That sucks...if you see a winner, I guess you have to move fast. Interesting that they'd buy from another dealer. Do you have the VIN# to confirm?

I know you mentioned you'd also be interested in a black/black car.

Have you seen this one at $40k with 23k miles? I know it is 8k miles over your mileage limit, but I am not sure the MGMSL car is worth the spread...

I checked out the first link when I was looking several months ago since I live close to the dealer. The car is in good condition, but had the common dead battery and broken soft top issues. I think it also had a Parrot bluetooth handsfree hardwired in there too.

:rolleyes:Or if you really want to spend some dough ,my friend saw a 2006 GS spyder listed for ca$ 69000 in a dealership in Vancouver area.

Very interesting black convertible with black + red full leather interior and red steering wheel...very exotic! It also has the carbon fiber door mouldings and side sills, and mercury grey wheels. Good looking ride.

Mileage is ~37k, but if it's got full service history, I wouldn't be too concerned. These cars like to be run. I'm at 35k and she's running like a train! ;)

This is a 2 owner car, first owner had it for 6 months and last owner for 5 years...this could be an opportunity to get a nice car at a very fair deal.
