I think you need to trickle charge your battery first. Then try to reset the EPB by removing the battery negative pole (has a grey plastic clip) for 5 minutes. They call it the "Italian Reboot". Try it twice, if needed. If it doesn't work, either the electronic parking switch (next to shifter) or the EPB actuator (in trunk, near battery) is fried. Hope it works. The parking switch is a high failure item for Maserati/Ferrari but I think it's your battery low voltage problem.

I swear, I have never seen , nor heard of another car with as many battery-related peculiarities ! My friend with the 2012 GT-MC had his car suddenly go into limp mode, later diagnosed to be due to a slight-moderate drop in battery voltage. He called the dealer and was told to use the paddle shift "manual" mode to override the D gear which was stuck in limp mode until he gets to the shop to recharge or replace the battery . That worked , so I wonder if it also works to disengage the emergency park brake ..?

Yep, this car seems more susceptible to voltage drops or low battery conditions than others. Just the other day, I went for my first start of the day in the morning and I got the ASR Failures, Go To Dealer, Suspension message. I started driving and it went away within a few minutes. I ended up driving very spiritedly on the back country roads of central FL for about an hour and a half on the way to look at a a Durango and it’s never been on since. I did have an old iPod plugged into the glove box adapter and perhaps that tiny draw to charge it overnight from dead to full was just enough to cause the brief error. But, it’s been fine now for several days and I have since removed the iPod but who knows. Just a finicky Italian woman at times!:wink2:

IF that doesn't work you should have a manual release tool in your tool kit. Unplug the electronic connector to the EPB module in the trunk. It's all the way down underneath everything. Then use the tool to completely disengage the brakes. Do not attempt to drive the vehicle with them stuck. You will end up paying for more things than you want to.

Yes, this car is something else with the battery-related issues...it's just poor design with the electronics. Just a slight drop in battery voltage will screw everything up...EPB, doors locked, trunk locked, crazy check engine lights and random error lights etc etc. The dealer told me the EPB is very sensitive to voltage drop. So i keep my battery trickle charged daily. Most folks don't do that, which I can understand...it's a hassle if you drive daily. So they get caught off-guard...I know folks who can't open doors and trunk suddenly...screwed! The best thing to do is to replace the battery every 2 years if you don't trickle charge daily.

The design of the electronics is really not that poor at all also the parts used on these cars are very similar to other makes and models....Any late model luxury car has a ton of luxury features that take a lot of electricity to operate....The base of all that electricity is the battery...The biggest problem with a lot of these cars is that they sit and don`t get driven...Automotive batteries don`t do well sitting all the time...That is why you see so many off the wall problems with these cars and batteries...Jason

Even though it seems battery issues with this car are more common than not, we've also seen posts on this forum from members that had their cars sit for weeks, and sometimes months upon months at a time, without any trickle chargers, and some are on three or four year old batteries, and yet the car starts right away after all that time. The inconsistency is what is so odd. And as I posted in another thread , I am one of those " lucky " owners with an 2013 original battery which still tests ( both voltage and starting amps ) as if it was almost brand new .
I do drive the car about five days a week ( it sits just about every weekend ) , but approx a year ago it sat for an entire ( previous ) year, battery was subsequently dead as a doornail, it was jump started , and not a single problem since that day. Go figure ... I'm waiting for it to act up at any moment now, lol.

Just because the battery starts the car does not mean is really good at all...When you crank the car the voltage will drop a good bit...The various modules and ECUs in the car have a minimum voltage they require to operate and communicate. A good battery will stay above this level, while a marginal one will crank the car and fall below this voltage and this is where all the odd warning etc. come from...I would probably just recommend to just replace the battery every 2.5 years in one of these cars and call it a day...Jason

+1 on charging the battery (trickle charge), avoid jump starting and with any luck, it will work just fine

Best Regards,

Hi All, I ended up doing the manual release using the tool kit in the trunk. Please advise what I need to do to reactivate the EPB. Thanks a lot

I jump-started my car, and the park-off message shows up, now I can't release the brake any advice?
Hi had the same issue, i switched the car off and turned it back on again and it released the brake. If you have not got this please invest in this, best thing i ever bought for the car : NOCO Boost Plus GB40 1000A UltraSafe Car Jump Starter, Jump Starter Power Pack, 12V Battery Booster, Portable Powerbank Charger, and Jump Leads for up to 4.0-Liter Petrol and 3.0-Liter Diesel Engines.
