Finally have a window issue. Want to describe it here to make sure I'm chasing the right part(s) before I dig in.

Went for a drive tonight and all was perfect. One-touch switch driver (left side) window down, and one-touch switch driver window back up when I parked. Open the door and window does the 1/2" courtesy slide, close the door, window seals up, and I lock the doors. Totally normal.

Come back, unlock the doors, and the driver window doesn't courtesy slide when I open the door.
Turn the car on, and now when I press the driver side window switch up or down I hear a click toward the passenger side, but no sound in the driver door. Window is not moving, only stays in 100% up position.

Passenger window remains operational.

Has anyone run into this issue? Do I start here (pretty invasive) or are there other simpler things to check first? Fuses, relays, etc.?

Thanks for any experience or thoughts!

Adam

I'm dreading having to deal with that as our cars require the glass to come down 1/2 inch so we can open the door. Curious what you are doing in the meantime to not do damage since it won't come down.

Closing the door very gently for now

Any experience around this very appreciated!
i wonder if you can manually push it down a bit if that's even advisable and if it's down if it will go up at all when pressing the button. I have no experience with the window switches but I will keep an eye on this thread and share what I find.

According to this thread, "BEWARE OF PEOPLE LEANING OR PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE WINDOW WHEN DOOR OPEN" so I won't attempt that.

I'm not sure how similar the internals are, between our doors, but my 2014 Granturismo drove me crazy with the exact problem you're experiencing. I had the motor replaced, problem came back. I adjusted the micro switch, to no avail. I found the issue by accident really. I was inside my door lubricating the window tracks, to make the glass slide easier, when I had an idea. What If I connect the window switch and then hold it in the down position, at the same time just fiddle around with any wires/plug connectors that I see inside the door. Low and behold, when I moved the wire for the window motor, my glass came down. After close inspection of the connector, I found the male/female pins inside just weren't making a good connection. Lesson learned, just because things look connected, doesn't mean that they are. Without using a multimeter and taking a deep dive into the door's electronics, something similar as to what I did might be something that you want to check out. I eventually just used a ty-wrap to snug the connector together. Window has been 100% trouble free since I did this...2-3 years ago.
Good Luck with your troubleshooting. (y)

Thank you Tim for the heads up. I had a very similar issue with my ignition key barrel a couple years ago - loose connection wouldn't start the car. Will get into the door this weekend and poke around.

 I was about to order a microswitch and figured I'd try it again...pulled the door handle and the window popped down 1/2", turned the key and it goes up and down as normal.
The motor does feel a little slower/more groany on the driver side than the passenger when the window is going up/down.

Anyone have any experience on if something is likely on the way out (a replacement part I should order), or if it might just be a loose connection to check out?

Thanks!

If the microswitch is out of adjustment, you will have problems with proper window operation. You need to get inside that door and bump around a bit.

Any updates on this? Hopefully you were able to resolve.

It's still working normally since that one day. I'll chalk it up to the Italectric gremlins and maybe a loose connection, and keep an eye on it in the coming months.

If it happens again I'll try to source a new microswitch (can't seem to find the Temco CN0097 available anymore) and get inside the door panel to take a look.

Thanks all!

Lucky man. Good to hear!

Quick update - this seems to be intermittent.

I did take the door panel off and mess around with the microswitch and unplug/reconnect the window motor connector. Nothing seemed loose or strange. The regulator teeth seem fine, too.

For the benefit of anyone who finds this thread in the future - if you want to just check the connector for the window motor, you do not need to take the door panel off. Just take out the door speaker, and the window motor connector is behind the speaker to the left.

The trend I'm noticing is after a drive, the window will stop working. When I park at home and connect the battery tender, it works fine. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the first sign of a failing battery - I'll plan to replace the battery in the spring. Interested in thoughts here, and any other signs of a failing battery that I should look for. I have it on a tender all the time in the garage, so it's tough to tell.

Thanks all!

Thanks for sharing. I have to take off a door card for other reasons but I am curious to see my speakers. They always crackle a bit when the car is stated or sometimes randomly but otherwise work fine without issue. I was having some suspension fault issues regarding not enough voltage, changes the battery, and they went away.

I do have an intermittent tail light bulb failure that seems intermittent but it's on a new battery so not sure.

Remove tail light bulb and re-install it.

I look forward to one day posting a resolution in this thread - today is not that day but I have a new clue and a question.

Recap: My driver side window intermittently stops functioning, for minutes to weeks at a time. No movement from the switch, and no half inch move when I open the door. Then it randomly works again.

Today I realized two things:
  • If I slam the door a few times, it will sometimes work again
  • When the window is not working, central locking does not either. When the window works, if I lock/unlock my driver door with the key, the passenger door also locks/unlocks. When the window is not working, using they key in the driver door only controls the driver door lock.

Is anyone aware of a connection or solder point in the driver door or door jamb that could affect both the window function and central locking?

Hoping to get a more specific area to investigate. Thanks!

Well, theres a load of cables that go from the door jam to the door and get flexed every time you open and close it...

+1
Might be worth taking a peek into a wire bundle at the point where it flex's/bends. I solved about 4 problems on my BMW 535i by finding several wires, coming from the boot lid...right where they bend, that were hanging by only a few strands of wire.
