TL;DR: Used Autel MaxiCOM 808 scanner on my 2013 GT. Dash lit up like Christmas Tree as I unplugged the scanner (potentially early). Now every time I turn the ignition on the dash flashes like Christmas tree and the infotainment won't turn on. What do I do?

Full story:

Sent my 13 GT into the dealership since the AC broke. After robbing me $8000 over a problem they describe differently every time when they're on the phone, the car was back in my procession. However, I guess they did not keep the car charged during the 2 months it was there. The dash started lighting up like Christmas tree as I was driving down the freeway randomly. This was not new to me - it was clearly the battery. But I am busy these days, so I drove the car for 2 more days until I had a chance to setup the charger (moving into a new house).

It's probably because some of the error code showed up more than a few times, they became permanent. Although the car drove fine in every way for a 40 min drive, I am still seeing an airbag light and a ambient temperature sensor low input code. And most annoyingly: the dealer did not clear my service light. I sent the car in for service 8 months ago, they didn't clear the light. Yet after the AC work, they still forgot to. Therefore I thought, since I am not eager to have them rob be another few grands, it's time to invest in a more advance scanner.

Got the Autel on Amazon next day and the story at the beginning of the post happened. When I got the scan tool, I spent 30 min going through all the updates possible. When I plugged the scan tool in, it says it needs to upgrade firmware. I clicked yes, and it says "looking for network". This is when I have possibly messed up: I was outside of the house where there isn't good wifi and I though the scanner is updating its own firmware (why would it update firmware for my car) and I thought the "network" would be the wifi network (as it turned out, it might refer to the in vehicle network...). So I unplugged the OBD2 port. This is when the dash lit up like Christmas tree. And 30 min of battery disconnect didn't do the wonder like before.

I am suspecting that something is in a bad state with something on the comms / firmware level. But what firmware was the scanner updating anyway? Now I am wondering how to get my car back to normal. The scan tool now cannot even reset the service light. So I am assuming the scan tool lost communication with a few modules in the car.

The car still starts, runs fine, drives fine. Other than no dash and no infotainment. As soon as the dash lights up, the windows lower and the window switches stop working as if it's in some "diagnostic mode". After the key is turned to off, the window raises back to normal. After a few tries, it does not even do that any more. Now I have a car parked outside on a rainy day with windows cracked open as we are moving into a new house and the garage is filled with boxes/

Any advise would help. Thanks!

On my x431 Launch Diag tool, there are many updates for the diag software on the tablet. Then when you power up the bluetooth/wifi dongle (which automatically happens when you plug it into the OBD port), I occasionally get a notice that the firmware on the dongle needs to be updated as well... I suspect that is what is happening with your Maxi. I would first get a new battery for your car, keep the tender connected to your car, and then plug in the dongle and run through all the updates for the Maxi tool (both tablet and dongle). Then perform a full system scan (ignition on/engine off) and clear out all the error codes (when the scan is running through all the modules, its pretty normal to get a bunch of weird error messages on the dash).

Pretty sure it's not tried to upgrade the car firmware. I'd do as @sammyf says: Full scan and clear everything, then see what state you're in.

Forgot to mention I’ve tried that. Same state. The dash is still messed up. But I realized the infotainment actually works - just have to turn on manually. After turning on it says something like keep the engine running Italiano. After selecting yes it says something failed. But infotainment continues to be functional.

The windows however completely do not work: does not auto rise when closing the door and switches are completely dead. Had to take some garbage bags since it’s parked out in the rain now…

If this car was brought in for repair in my shop I would first roll my eyes. 2nd I would do a battery capacitance discharge. 3rd I would do a battery component relearn. 4th proxy alignment and 5th clear all DTC's. 6th say a prayer :)
Battery was disconnected all night and still the same state this morning. So that leaves us with Proxi alignment. Searched around about it and seems like that might be what we need. Seems like a Maserati shop visit again 🤦... I bet you this is $2000 for a 30 minute job...

I understand that. Cap discharge clears module memories, component relearn is a relearn phase for certain modules, proxy alignment is where BCM setd up communication between modules. These are the things I would do if you brought the car in for me to work on. No gauntee it would correct the problem. If it didn’t I would suspect the BCM.

I live outside Houston Texas , doesn't Jason live in Georgia? That said, I don't know if aftermarket scan tools can perform proxy alignments. If you live near a Maserati dealer take it back and ask them to do what I suggested. Once again , I don't know what's wrong with your car but this is what I would do before any other diagnostics.

Yeah that was the joke I was addressing the poster lol

Yes, I'm in Atlanta..There has to be someone closer to fix it...The only aftermarket tool that can do a proxy alignment is the Leonardo I'm pretty sure...Jason

Before go anyway, update your Autel and VCI, read all ECU of your car, note all DTC (save report) and clear all ECU.
You have a diag tool and we don't know which fail are in ECU...

After that, you also can try to do a proxy alignement, with select Ferrari 612 car (this function is present on MS909, I'm not sure in MS808).
