I recently bought my second GranTurismo. This time I went with the convertible, she's a beauty and it also has three years CPO warranty on it*.

I've noticed it the engine feels a little rough, the odd vibration here and there in idle, probably a bit worse in sport and you can feel it when engine decelerating. I don't remember my old ('14 I think) with a lot more miles running like this. But it's subtle, so not sure if I'm imagining things. Also, the car smells kind of oily - like an old classic car does which I also don't remember. Any good ways of diagnosing if there's a real issue here and not just something in my head? Is this normal for a GT and I'm just not remembering it?

* Even though an '18, it looks like it wasn't sold until late '20 so it's full warranty life only started that year.

I had the oily smell and it turned out to be the valve cover gaskets leaking oil onto the exhaust headers. Never saw any oil but on initial startup the smell would be worse and go away after a few minutes. The residual was a slight oily smell inside the car. After having the gaskets changed no more smell.

As people write here I would have the car checked at a Maserati garage. My first Granturismo (a 2014 model) once had to have an injector replaced because one was defective. The symptoms were exactly like the ones you described. In the end it was no big deal. Wish you a lot of fun!

Greetings! It's great to hear you've joined the GranTurismo family with your convertible addition. Now, let's address those concerns you have regarding the engine performance and the oily smell.

Although some engine vibration is typical, excessive or irregular vibrations might indicate an underlying issue. Given the differences you've noticed from your previous model, it's wise to have it checked out by a certified Maserati technician. Their expertise and diagnostic equipment will assist in identifying any potential problems with your engine.

Regarding the oily smell, it's worth investigating further to ensure it's not an indication of a leak or mechanical fault. A skilled technician can perform a thorough inspection and provide you with a clear understanding of what's causing the odor.

As for your warranty, since the car was sold in 2020, your three-year CPO warranty should be in full effect. If any repairs or maintenance are required, they should be covered under this warranty.

I highly recommend scheduling an appointment at an authorized Maserati service center. They will be able to provide you with the necessary guidance and resolve any concerns you may have. Drive safely and enjoy the open road in your GranTurismo Convertible!

Hey there! Congrats on your new ride, man! GranTurismo Convertible, huh? That's some serious style. Now, about the rough engine and vibrations, it's not something you wanna ignore. Could be a minor hiccup or something bigger, hard to say without a proper check.

My advice? Take her to a Maserati pro, bro! They're the ones who can get down and dirty, diagnosing the issue like a boss. Those vibrations could be a sign of trouble, and that oily smell ain't normal. A good tech can sniff out any leaks or mechanical gremlins causing that funky odor.

Oh, and don't worry about the warranty. Since the car was sold in 2020, your coverage started from then. If you're still under that CPO warranty, you're golden, dude!

Go book an appointment with a trusted Maserati service center ASAP. They'll give you the lowdown and sort your baby out. Drive safe, enjoy that beast!

Probably sent from Maserati cares...Saying the same stupid repetitive shit...Like people are too stupid to call a dealer or something..Jason
I don't think Maserati Cares is an AI ;) Probably.....

The others have all been lumped together and their obsession with a certain Toronto based service centre hasn't helped. I did flag my suspicions earlier, but tend not to act unless it's flagged to me :)

Hey buddy! Nice move on getting yourself a sweet GranTurismo Convertible. That's one ride that's gonna turn heads for sure! Now, let's talk about the engine vibes and that oily smell you're picking up.
So, here's the deal. Some vibration is normal, but if it's feeling rough and out of the ordinary, you gotta get it checked out. Take it to a Maserati expert who can dig in and figure out what's going on under the hood. Don't mess around with your new baby, dude! That oily smell? Yeah, that's not supposed to be there.

It could be a sign of a leak or some other mechanical mischief. Let a pro handle it, they'll know what to do. Oh, and don't sweat the warranty stuff. Since your car was sold in 2020, you got the full three-year CPO warranty going on. If there's any fixing to be done, it should be covered. Make an appointment with a trusted Maserati service center pronto. They'll get you sorted and back on the road, no problem.

Take care and enjoy that droptop! Hey there, fellow Maserati enthusiast! Welcome to the GranTurismo club, and congrats on your new convertible! That's what I call a sweet ride.
