I have a FD DBW for 2009 GTS F1 for sale:

Granturismo_dbwem Drive By Wire / F-1 Enhancement Module for GT-S / MC STRADALE (MC-SHIFT)

Huge improvement in response and clutch engagement. Here's what happened and why I'm selling - after having it for 3 years I got ASR error, took it to Exquisite Marque which thinks it's caused by the DBW so they removed it. I contacted Formula Dynamics and they say it is due to fault in wiring or installation. Since my car only has 1 year COE left I don't really want to install it again if I can sell it. I will be visiting FD headquarters in Vegas next month and they will give the unit a full checkup to make sure it has no problems if there are any concerns about the unit.

PM me if interested.

Hi, am currently looking at a 09' Maserati GT 4.7 Cambiocorsa (the one with f1 gear box) Can any experienced owners enlighten me on the clutch life and how much do you clock in before having to change and how much it costs? Thank you!

Hi, Javier, I replaced my Nov 2010 GT-S Camb clutch once at Hong Seh Motor in Feb 2015 for around $8,800 (including $2,200 for labour). My car had then done 36k km. I have now just crossed 60k km and when I serviced it at HSM in May at 56k km, I was told my clutch had 48% worn. So this clutch should last till at least 70k km. Now that HSM is no longer the official agent for Maserati, I expect the clutch replacement cost to come down a little at least! I passed by MBM Wheelpower in Feb this year and asked for the clutch replacement cost. About the same. Its quote for full oil service is HIGHER than HSM! So I would rather go HSM for obvious reasons because it was still under extended warranty.

Hi Javier, the clutch usually needs replacement at about 40k to 60k depending on your driving style.

Do check with us directly on clutch replacement.

Cheers!

Thank you all for the feedback! I appreciate it. Seems like the clutch won't be an issue for me the next 2 years.

Would it be possible to compile a list of tips/tricks to improve clutch life? i.e putting it into neutral when coming to a complete stop.

Also, did any owners have difficulty whilst driving the cambiocorsa in traffic or places with heavy traffic?

Thanks in advance,
Javier

Hi Javier,

No issues driving it in heavy traffic.

The main thing to keep in mind is that it is NOT an automatic! If you are not familiar with driving manual cars then I wouldn't recommend the F1 gearbox. It is quite bad in automatic mode (your passenger's head will jerk forwards and back each time it shifts).

The easiest way to burn through the clutch is to crawl at a slow speed or reverse at slow speed. For example I know of people who burned up a lot of the clutch when stuck in traffic driving up parking ramps like Takashimaya. When the car is moving slowly it is actually slipping the clutch. If you do that you may get a 'Clutch Overheat' warning in the dash and the smell of burning clutch. No permanent damage once the car cools down but clutch life is severely reduced when doing that. If you are familiar with driving manual cars you can tell when the clutch is slipping and when it is fully engaged.

Hi Javier

Not many tips needed. According to my service advisors at HSM, my late 2010 model came with a newer software programme that automatically disengages the clutch if the speed goes below a certain level and/or when I press the brake pedal fully (e.g. at traffic light). It is true. I can feel the clutch disengaged with the car goes slowly.

In my many years of driving it, I have NEVER needed to go neutral to "save" my clutch. I think 35k km done in Singapore's short-distance driving is very reasonable. I drive the car almost daily and for all distances ranging from 1km (to the supermarket!) to 20+km (to my workplace). So you can imagine how my car works FOR me. One more thing, drive the car HARD. If it's driven too softly all the time, the clutch will not be worn evenly. The GT-S F1 clutch is meant to go through all six gears! So don't get stuck in low or high gears only. Finally, don't go full throttle from start. It can be quite "xiong" on the clutch. Don't drag the gear if the speed is going too slow (e.g. 2nd or 3rd gear). You will know when the car is a little "shaky". Downshift with your wonderful paddle so that the clutch works fully to the next gear and then press the gas pedal to go. In short, selecting an optimal gear is important to clutch life. When I get into slow traffic or jam, I will keep a distance from the car in front and go at 2nd gear constantly (unless it is up slope). It works much better than my ZF 6-speed auto gear box on my BMW! No need to step on the brake all the time!

If you ask me whether I will go for the 6-speed ZF automatic GT-S NOW, I will definitely say NO. The F1 gearbox is head-knocking when you change and is certainly NOT the smoothest. But every time I drive, I can feel the mechanics at work and the thrill of you controlling the car (including letting the engine rev till 7,500 or 8k rpm!) compensates for everything. By the way, the auto GT-S exhaust in sports-mode will only be fully opened (and thus full note) when the RPM exceeds 3,000. That's not easy to achieve in SG unless you find a stretch of open road. Its exhaust is fully opened if you use manual override to drive (but why buy an auto box in the first place!). So the Cambiorcorsa is a great fun. Enjoy it to the fullest.

Hope these help.

Hi all. A friend of mine sold his 2005/2006 QP and has a set of HRE P47 staggered rims (20 inch) with tyres, and a set of Brembo GT-R front and back, looking for a new home. Will consider any reasonable price. Do message me for more details/pics if interested. Thanks.
