I wanted to know from everyone what insurance premium they pay for their coupe. I just got my bill from Progressive and they are now charging $3554 per year with 500 deductable (it has 250k/500k accident and $100k property damage). I wanted to know if anyone has a lower premium with another company that I could try.

Thanks,
Zearnold

State Farm insures all three for $1871 /yr.

250/500/100 $1500 ded (makes a big difference) multi-car, good driver, and loyalty discounts (been with them for dog's years) air bag and anti theft discounts.

Here's a tip - ask yourself what would happen if you had and accident and it cost $1000 to repair. Would you turn it in as an insurance claim or just pay out of pocket to avoid the hassle and possible premium increase or cancellation? How about $1500? $2000? When you hit the point where you'd be mmore likely to make the claim call your agent and ask for a quote with that deductible. You'll be surprised how much it can reduce the premium.

$1232 / 6 months for 300k CSL with State Farm. I have a 10mil umbrella above that with another carrier.

I have a truck and two motorcycles listed with the same agent

One ticket and no claims (they're mulliganing the ticket since I've been clean for so long), 32 yr male, single, nonsmoker, roman catholic, taurus, enjoys bicycling, dancing, long walks on the beach...whoops wrong site.

I dumped Progressive a long time ago, their rates just aren't competitive. Also, while I've found their customer service to be excellent, most everyone else I talk to says it's bloody awful, so better safe than sorry. It cost more to insure my Jeep, not much of a market for hot Maserati parts I guess.

I'm 51 - been with SF for 30+ years. I don't have Comprehensive on the Stealth and I'm in the "low mileage" class - less than 7500 mi/yr/car.

Used to be lower as I had homeowners with them too.

The rest of the difference is probably down to my cars' ages

Guys,

I think we have a slightly different system over here in the UK as I am not getting the 3 figures you quote for that premium.

Over here, my annual insurance premium is for one car and and you have an "excess" figure, which means that you have to pay the "excess" amount as part of any claim.

For the GS, my annual premium is £1,300 ($2,470) with a £500 excess. For the other cars, the V8 Cayenne is £1,300, the Lotus £900 and the Forester £600. So a total of £4,100 ($7,790)!!

I really do not have more money than sense so I do what I usually do, just don't think about it and pay it!!!

You're right, the forms are very different.

Most US policies are written on the Personal Auto Policy form which combines Liability, Uninsured/Undersinsured motoroist, medical payments and physical damage.

Coverage is also divided by Collision and Comprehensive. Collison covers damage due to running into another vehicle or object. Comprehensive covers other types of accidents - fire, theft, vandalism, falling objects.

The form number/number/number is a split limit. The first number is maximum bodily injury coverage per person, the second is max bodily injury coverage per accident, and the third is property damage coverage per accident. Some policies have a Combined Single Limit which affords one limit for both property damage and bodily injury per accident.

Most states mandate the minimum limit you must carry; however, that mandated limit is so low most motorists purchase in excess of that limit and people with substantial assets will frequently purchase an "excess" or "umbrella" liability policy that drops down over both auto and homeowners liability to afford high limit coverage.

What you guys call "excess" is our "deductible". The insurance company deducts that amount from any claim paid.

It's useless to compare rates to members here. Rates are specific to geographic area, age, driving record, type of car, other cars, other coverage etc. One should always shop insurance. Actuaries/underwriters are always adjusting their book to balance risk/yield. If a certain carrier wants a particular age group, geographic area, they will adjust rates accordingly. They don't want all low risk as it won't yield enough. They don't want to much geographic concentration, e.g., hurricane exposure in coastal FL.

That said, it's probably worthwhile to look at the collector car insurers when the value of the vehicle may vary greatly. A Maserati coupe can be worth anywhere from $18,000 to 38,000. The collector car coverage is stated value-no deductible. Your regular insurers will be a major hassle if you have a big hit/loss.

I have my coupe insured with Haggerty for about $20/month more than my regular insurer wanted. But, I know that it is insured for what I paid for it. No negotiation with the claims department at GEICO in the event of a claim.

State Farm, similar to above poster. Changed premium substantially. Went from $500 to $1000. Saved $60-70/month. IMO, anything under $1500-2000 is something I’m willing to pay outta pocket to not get wrecked on backside by increased premiums.

Agreed with above - I am Gieco $1,000 year. Have a lot of properties and cars, but for this one had to go outside my current insurance advisor to get this rate. He wanted $3-4k for "exotic" insurance and no drivers under 25. Plus max of 3500miles per year!

I'm paying $4,200/year for two super-cheap cars and my 2005 Quattroporte. Imagine if I actually had an expensive car!

This is all thanks to my 17-year-old daughter having to be insured to drive all cars. Like she's ever getting behind the wheel of the QP!
