My understanding is that some expertise is needed to change the oil in a dry sump engine, you have to pump it out or something no?

No, you just drain the tank and the engine sump, change the filter and that's it. Check while running hot.
OK that's interesting. The fact is, the price of an oil change is probably the cheapest thing they ever do at my shop. I have them do it while the car is there for a usual multitude of other checks and fixes. Doing my own oil change would be like telling my gardener to not trim one particular shrub. I am certainly capable of trimming it. But while he is doing the whole yard, he might as well.

Makes sense. Some people have more money than time too. I realize and respect that. I'm just too frugal to pay someone a dollar more than what I can do the same for myself. Goes not just for my cars. I'm take frugality too far sometimes lol

Some think I'm frugal because I do my own oil changes on my Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Maserati (had to have one four door I guess). But the reality is I use a better quality of oil than the dealer (in the USA think of redline oil; I use a European competitor to this, but same type of group 4 ester synthetic oil, not the cheap group 3 "cracked" mineral oil the dealers call synthetic). The oil I use costs far more, but is far better quality.

The biggest issue is though, I take care & time on every job on my car.... which the dealers (or other garages) tend not to, unless you're very lucky... it was a number of botched jobs on my Lamborghini that made me decide to do my own maintenance, even though I had not done so since my university days...

Yes, the available time one has comes into it... but I think of it as taking the time to "commune" with my car(s). You definitely get a chance to see the undercarriage and see what's starting to leak, or is partways distressed, or is loose /sloppy or is partially worn-down. Then do pre-emptive, anticipated service as needed. Then breakdowns or unanticipated mtce. are often much rarer occurences.

Little less then $100.00 20 min to change and I'm out the garage and running down the road. It's just not that hard.

I agree with some dealers not taking care and time. Sending back your car after something was "fixed" or service was done and now your brakes squeak past the break-in time is frustrating. Even if getting the car picked up is free in the summer that valuable time to enjoy your car is worth a lot. Do you have a lift or ramps for your oil changes?
