Thanks Mark!

1.) I believe in the first post of this thread, @Silver spur installed the aftermarket accumulator on his dry sump engine and described where he plumbed it in.

2.) I will reach out to TEM Performance to see if they can confirm if it's for both dry and wet sump engines. @nomas is your engine a wet or dry sump?

3.) Maybe someday Erik will return and comment
2.) dry sump cars came with check valves and early wet sump cars didn't until you modify the caps.
3.) the accumulator is not there to store pressure for engine startup...It is there for quick response for an older type high pressure variator...That is why there is a secondary oil pump to boost main oil pressure...Jason

Thanks Jason!

2.) I did call Rich @ TEM and he confirmed their mod/repair is for wet sump engines. He did also say that he has had to repair some later wet sump engines as the factory check valves would sometime slip out because of tolerances. However, he did NOT mention anything to me about dry sump cars having the check valves. Jason, have you ever had to service the check valve on a dry sump engine?

3.) That makes sense as I was reading in another thread on the coupe forum regarding some experimentation by Lorenzo where he was visually observing the oil flow through the accumulators via clear hoses. Will scratch this one off the list for now.

No, I have never had n issue with one..It is a just a little ball that sits in a seat..Very simple....The dry sump cars wear the variator bushings...BTW I'm the guy that replaced Erik's variators...Jason

Greetings from Tampa. I own a '05 QP w/29,500 miles. Purchased 05/17 with 13,200 miles. Invariably I have the dreaded cam variator rattle upon start up along w/ "engine control system fault" message. :(

Two questions:

1. If I get rattle noise solved using replacement solenoids or other method (NOT A FULL VARIATOR REPLACEMENT) for hopefully, $ 1,500 or less, WILL THE REDUCTION IN POWER/ACCLERATION BE SOLVED? I only use manual mode never automatic.
2. HOW MUCH INTERNAL ENGINE DAMAGE CAN BE DONE IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT?

I know the variator issue has been covered ad nauseam and I've tried to read some other threads so forgive me if this has been answered before or maybe point me to another thread. Thanks,

P.S. I love the car, but with it needing front suspension bushings for sure, + cam covers leaking, + steering rack leaking, + oil change, + rear pads (maybe rotors too ugh) probably, +faulty passenger door handle (door doesn't open from inside) + minor interior bits that need fixed = time to trade / sell IF it needs variator replacement.

Yeah just because you're hearing that noise, doesn't mean your variators are bad on a 2005. Your CEL could be from a bad thermostat or any other thing. I have lots of rattle on start-up with mine, at 78K miles, but my shop says they just do that. Also, 2005 front suspension bushings are unlikely to fail, it could be the shocks. I had to replace my front shocks but the bushings are solid on those model years, they don't fail easily.
