Hi all,
I did scour the forums previously and was able to identify a non OEM part to replace a defective relay for the turn indicator. I thought I'd share my experience as I found the relevant information was across several different posts and under different titles.
The indications that there was an issue with the turn indicator system was the lack of any turn signals or emergency hazard lights, either on the dashboard or from the physical lights.
The majority of posts suggested that the fuse would be the issue. I tested my fuse and there were no issues.
The second step was to remove and test the green relay located under the instrument panel on the drivers side. It is relatively easy to access. Note, the green relay is likely only to be for the OEM relay. If it has been previously replaced it could be a different color.
The relay was tested and found to be defective. Several of the forum posts indicated a BMW relay that was the same fit, form and function and I ordered one. Just google relay 1388533 and you should be able to find a one on E-bay. I paid around €16 including express delivery from Germany - but this was a second hand part. New is considerably more expensive, although much cheaper than an OEM pàrt.
The upshot is that everything works fine now and it was a relatively inexpensive and painless fix.
Hope this helps.
