Everything's bolt on and easy. It'll take you more than an hour to do it in your garage. However at a shop the mufflers will come on and off fairly easy.

To do the job well with no leaks and to align the mufflers correctly, it will take a few hours. The X-Pipe is just in front of the mufflers and takes just a bit longer if you decide to add that. Remember the GS comes with the X-Pipe but the coupes do not.

Quicksilver?

After years of procrastinating, I had a Quicksilver installed on my Aston Martin today. As soon as I turned the key, I realized I should have done it years ago. Quicksilver for the most part is the only aftermarket exhaust for AM. I noticed on the Quicksilver website that they now have exhausts systems for the modern Maseratis including the GT and QP. Has anyone mounted one of these?

No Tubi at Houston Maserati

Strange. I went to Ferrari Maserati of Houston today and they informed me that the are not allowed to install Tubi exhaust - per Ferrari Maserati headquarters. Not sure why. But they guy did say that a Tubi muffler and tips will give 20 - 25 more hp. Hard to believe. Is this true? Also, he mentioned something about a computer upgrade is needed during Tubi install. Is that true?

Thanks for your help!

Technically, Ferrari / Maserati does not approve of exhaust upgrades and discourages dealers from installing. However many will do it. It usually depends on whether or not they are a factory owned dealership.

Tubi does not add 25hp. From what I've seen, they report that there is no performance upgrade claimed on the Maserati. It's my experience however that both the Larini and Tubi products can add around +10hp. The Larini X-pipe also adds +8hp to +10hp.

ECM Tuning is not required however it's the best way to get the above mentioned HP from the additional air flow.

Houston shop....

Thank you! Does anyone know any shops in Houston that are capable of doing ECM tuning to improve air flow? Do I bring it somewhere to get the computer flashed or are there other options? Thanks for your help.......
Jeff can probably tell you from his contacts but you could try calling Eurocar Werks (713.661.6428) - they're just south of the I59 between Chimney Rock & the 610 or ask at Motorwerks (832.419.8084, ask for Sunil, www.mwhouston.com) - again close by on the I59 south feeder road.

Exhaust Mods

So I talked to a local sports car repair shop regarding Tubi cat back for my 02 Spyder GT. He said he can do it but expressed that he can deliver a throaty (comparable to Tubi) sound and get some extra horsepower by simply modifying my existing exhaust. He does it all the time for Aston Martins, Porsches, etc. While he regularly works on Maserati Spyders & Coupes, he hasn't done an exhaust mod yet but said it would be simple to try a few things (e.g. gut muffler, alter resonator, etc.) and see what we get.

Does anyone here have experience with doing this? Think it is a good move? Also, he mentioned GAIC download that can increase airflow & horsepower but he's not sure if it is available for Maserati. Anyone know? Also, he said he'd look at air filter and see how restrictive - maybe there's some added horsepower there..........

Appreciate your thoughts!

He's making it sound awfully easy considering he's going to be kinda making it up as he goes along and trying a few things. I'm still learning about the coupe exhaust myself so can't comment too much. I've heard of Cats being gutted but mufflers....? Which shop is it - being located in Houston myself, I'm obviously interested to know. BTW - I've got the Tubi's and love them. Thinking about doing something with the Cats though (replacing them, not gutting them).

I agree and am reluctant to have someone 'try' things on my Maserati. The shop is called Sports Car Repair and is located on Star Lane just off Chimney Rock in Houston. Owner is good friend of a friend. I contacted him to buy a Tubi system which he could certainly get me but said I should first see what he can do with my current exhaust system to save loads of cash. He said he does these exhaust mods all the time for Porsche, Aston Martin and BMW but hasn't done an exhaust mod on Maserati yet so will need to take a look. He does regularly service Maserati and actually had a Spyder and a Coupe in his bays yesterday so he is very familiar with the cars. I may have him take a look but I have to tell you that I am leaning towards Tubi muffler & tips just to be safe.......

If you want to save some $$ why don't you replace your mufflers with straight pipes? Ron Avery did it and it sounds very good. That should be your first step, before you mess around with your muffler. IMO.

Ron, do you have a sound clip of your setup?

Thanks. That was actually the first suggestion of the shop but I was concerned that it might be too loud. Ron, I would appreciate if you could send a sound clip if you have one. Also, curious to hear your thoughts on the sound with straightpipe versus original exhaust versus a Tubi system.

Thanks!

Surprisingly, it's actually not that loud. As long as you keep the center resonator, of course. To give you an idea, my Tubi is louder.

Straight Pipe Versus Tubi Muffler & Tips?

Interesting, your experience is that a Tubi is louder than straightpipes? I would have thought the opposite. Ron, do you have a sound clip of your straightpipe? I may have the shop remove muffler, keep resonator and put on straightpipes this weekend. I figure, I might as well try. If I don't like it, I can always proceed with the Tubi purchase or worst case put the muffler back on.........

I will be putting the Larini By Pass and X Pipe on my coupe here in early March and all of that flows in to Tubi in the rear so I will post the sound before and after so all can hear it, plus a how to.

Tubi + x-pipe is louder than straight pipe + center resonator.

I think you're doing the right thing. Try it, and if you don't like you can always go to Tubi or Larini.

Let me know if this works out. I have a hard time spending the $$$ on the tubi if the straight pipes have the same effect. I will check out the shop you listed and see what the price is.

Finally!

I went with the Larini's from FD and boy am I happy I did! I know it's a matter of taste so this isn't to say you Tubi guys chose wrong, but I really love the sound of these pipes now. They have a rich deep tone on startup and cruising, but it doesn't overwhelm the interior with an annoying drone (like the sport exhaust on my Bimmer sometimes does). And when you get on it my Coupe really gives that Ferrari scream now. The Larini's don't have any of that farting sound some after-market exhausts have. Simply put, they sound like the car should've straight out of the factory. Plus, the tips are really gorgeous.

Thanks for all the input!
