So I just came back from the first day of the track season at Lime Rock. After days on 4 different tracks last year, I made a number of changes to my '04 Spyder. I added FD springs, FD 15mm spacers, FD street performance brake pads, and a dedicated track wheel set composed of stock 18" 7 spoke wheels and Toyo R888 +10mm tires. I had already installed the FD DBW last year.

All I can say is Holy Sh-t! The car is completely different. It was totally composed in the corners, predictable and stable and stuck to the the track like glue. I was staying with Lotuses and Porsche GT3's in the turns which I never could do before and then powering past cars in the straights. My only complaint is the traction control. If you leave it on, its gets squirrelly and cuts power in some turns and grade changes. if you turn it off, the car begins to slide at times. I'd love to be able to dial it down or have a switch on the steering wheel so I could turn it on or off as needed.

It's hard to know which is the biggest improvement and exactly which change is responsible for which result but the difference in the springs is clear- the car no longer rolls in the turns and this results in a much better balanced and controllable ride. The difference in the tires is also huge. The tires performed magnificently- I could feel a real change in the lateral forces on me. I could drive the car hard into a corner and it held at much higher speeds and resulted in significantly better performance.

Before the car was fun to drive but was a joke on the track. Now, its a serious contender and embarrassed many worthy vehicles today.

Vids! I had enough to do just holding on to the steering wheel. I'll leave the vids to my fellow forum members. JP, come back from those sandy roads and meet us at Pocono.

Doug - this is great! I can't wait to get with you up at Pocono this year. Maybe you could give me a lap in your car so I could check our your tire setup? Well it's pretty safe to say that I'll be dust in your rear view mirror this year!
