So there are plenty of suggestions for the surface of the buttons to clean up and refinish and I will look at that.
But the issue I have is the actually buttons sometimes get stuck. For example, if the rear climate control buttons get
stuck in, I can't adjust from the front.

What is the cure for this? Spray something in around the buttons to penetrate......but what? Alcohol?

They're getting stuck, probably, because the coating goes down the sides as well, so binds on the edge

Unless someone's spillled something on them

Hello Everyone ! Just wondering about those sticky buttons. Is alcohol the best way to get rid of this issue? Thank you

I would recommend that you do not use alcohol or anything alcohol based to try and clean the buttons. Reading posts by others who’ve tried alcohol based cleaners end up rubbing off all of the color from the buttons.

Apparently one method I’ve heard that works are makeup remover wipes. Still takes some effort but removes the stickiness. I have some but have yet to try personally.

I removed my climate control, split the casings, removed the buttons, cleaned them with a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol (careful as rubbing the tops too hard could wipe off the black coating under the sticky stuff), reassembled and all is good. But, I tend to enjoy doing those things (once) so not difficult for me... if you are not comfortable doing it, dib the corner of a business card in rubbing alcohol and carefully try to clean out the gap.

Kind of... the board is held in with screws. Pry anything and you will break things. Just remove the back, unscrew the board and lay it down and the board with come out. Your buttons have small tabs on either side. If I recall correctly, I used a very small screwdriver to push one side in (from underneath) and gently press it out as I also pushed the other side slightly. Don't break the buttons by prying them out. They will come out. Keep track of where they go and if any have a spacer underneath ( as I recall) put them back in place.

Rubbing alcohol works great on some surfaces like the buttons themselves but for the surrounds, you're better off using ammonia (pure or cloudy); cloudy just has detergent in it but works fine too.
Patience and elbow grease is also needed.

Rubbing Alcohol for the window button for example.

Cleaning vs refinishing is like apples to hand-grenades.

on a GT, the HVAC buttons can stick even after refinishing. It’s a function of the button design. We often open up the channels to allow for better actuation.
