Have a GS, have been unable to turn off the light that is over the rearview mirror so it's been on since Friday.

The map light on the side works as intended, but the larger one won't go off period, car on or off, locked or unlocked.

I've tried every combination of pressing the button that I could think of.

There are no doors or compartments open that I can tell.

Any ideas? Dealer is kind of far...

Oh dear....

Sounds as if the switch is stuck in the "on" position, and you'll have to visit the dealer (phone him first). The light should go off after 10 or 11 seconds.

Looking at the door pillars I can't see any obvious sign of the actuating switch but I'm no expert - maybe someone else ?

Try opening and closing the doors, hood (bonnet), and trunk (boot) three or four times each - there may be a "lazy" contact in there somewhere.

Has the car been standing in heavy rain, or been pressure washed recently?

Hmm, I did try the doors and trunk but not the hood, will try that now.

I just picked up the car last Wed so no wash yet (at least not from me) but definitely big rain on Thursday.

As it turns out I am going to end up going back to the dealer tomorrow for something else, and I'm sure the battery will take one more night (after all it sat like that the entire weekend).

Battery should be OK - they have plenty of power.

Just as an update - took it back to the dealer and it turned out to be a defective switch assembly, replaced and light is off now.

Car drives better now <g>
