I was wondering if anyone has had their car rust-proofed and if it was a positive experience or not. It would be good to do in the salt belt, even if it is not winter driven, but have heard horror stories. Comments?
Check out the sportsmaserati forum, there is a huge thread on what rust does, mainly to the front subframe. And it is not good!! So pending on the state of your subframe you could fight of the salt with some DIY stuff, at least better than nothing, or have it professionally done. Driving in winter and not taking care of it will eat away the subframe within 5-10 years.
Just today I had a closer look at the underside of a car I am fairly keen on buying (my first QP). And I'm glad I did. Overall, I wasn't overly concerned about the level of corrosion, until I looked at the upper mounts of the front subframe. The car is the blue 2007 I have discussed in other posts.
Anyway, pics below, I think my decision now is how hard to hammer the dealer on the assumption I need to get some (hopefully preventative) work done. Or maybe this is just not a runner.
I will be discussing with a Maserati specialist in coming days to discuss if this is too late to be saved.
