Hi chaps,

as per my Modifications` Thread, I have added a lot of stuff on my GS, including FD`s ECM (and DBW).

For those who have already installed it and perhaps with a similar set up to mine, can I kindly ask you to let me have your experiences in terms of running the system in?

FYI, the tester at the shop that did the installation for me mentioned they couldn`t really feel any power/torque increase in the engine (though they tested the car in the wet and could go WOT).

Jeff mentioned I should do about 100 miles to get the ECU working optimally with the ECM module, but I am curious as to other people`s experiences. Particularly how the car`s power has evolved over time after installing the ECM: was it better from the start, did it improve over time, etc?

Cheers :)

I felt the difference right a way. I hope it will get even better after 100 miles!:D

I think I've changed too many things on my car at once to be able to feel the ECM working just yet (and the fact I haven't gone WOT either).

The ECM works primarily when you are Wide Open Throttle. If you don't have your foot to the floor going faster is not that important to you at the moment and so we don't want to just burn through fuel.

I thought about that too, so installed the Tubi one day, the DBW next day and drove for a while, and then for last plugged the ECM, so I could feel the difference each one made.

I'm going to install the air filter now.

Jeff, could you please send me the link for the air filter? Thanks!

Anybody have experience with the Quattroporte ECM unit? How much was noticeable actually? I am so skeptical spending money like that $2K on a computer chip, I'm not doubting FD or Jeff, or anything please mind you. Just my skepticism with those chip mods, as I have NO experience with them, or ever seen anybody's car with one, or heard anyone putting one in. I would think the maserati quattroporte automatica, which is what I have would be optimally programmed for the most power (400 hp) from the factory, although I think its more like 396hp they say? I just want to know more facts and proof about this, if you guys may, because I am wondering if I am missing out on some performance potential with my car, or if would make me even happier with it. But I don't want to just gamble $2K without hearing more about this.. Thanks in advance guys!

I was very skeptical too but I am a convert now. The installation is very easy (with regards to FD's modules), and the difference tangible.

The flip side, there is always at least one, is that at the end of the day, 400 or so ponies are more than enough for 99% of the times one drives the car (unless you are seriously into track days etc), so I got the stuff because I am a bit mad, otherwise not sure if you really want to go to such lengths for shaving a few seconds off your daily commute ;)

Hey guys, that said-
I'm more than a bit mad, and it bothers me to know that I have a qp sport gts and other guys out there will be faster than me- plus 430 possible hp to catch up to the 09's- (I have an 08) I'm pissed that they upgraded the engine 33 ponies for the same price- I ordered the larini exhaust, dbw module for my automatica, and ecu- all from Jeff at formula dynamics who has been more than helpful- I wonder, Is the ecu always on? Or do people put a switch for that just like the dbw module? And what of sport mode button, what happens to that one? I guess I'll have to see- I hope this adds some great power, and sound. My.QP is silent as hell- any thoughts guys?
Thanks for any replies!

The ECM module is always on. The Sport button will change the settings regarding suspension, gearshift and exhaust note (for the OEM exhaust), so it has nothing to do with the ECM.

Shouldn't the gas mileage only get worse at WOT acceleration? If I understand correctly, when cruising at part-load the fuelling/timing should not be affected by the ECM chip.

I have ordered the chip, Larini De-Cat and DBW plus air filters. I will let you know how it goes in a few weeks' time. Yesterday I had a dice with the new Boxster S PDK (which does 0-60 in 4.7s and 0-100 in 11s according to various magazine tests, so it's bloody quick) and I could still pull away above 70 mph. I'm hoping that with all the extra power I'll be able to waste these little cars much more decisively. And I have no intention letting the new M3 V8 pull away from me on the track... bring on the horsepower! :)

Supposedly, but it definetly lowered my gas mileage, and during the week I rarely go above 4,000 rpm.

I got the 2008 QP SPORT GTS DONE!!

I got my 2008 QP Sport GTS Upgraded at Universal Autosports in Glen Cove, New York with a Larini Exhaust, FD DBW, FD ECM - All from Jeff at Formula Dynamics. Kent Woodworth did the install. They did an awesome job!!! Anthony Simone, is the service manager, nicest most professional guy to work with ever!! :)

I picked up the car today, took it for a test run, and WOW.....!! :D:D

It feels like a totally different car! This car is a beast!!!! The DBW wakes up the car immediately, mine is (Automatica) as the Sport GTS came that way from the factory-

The throttle response is immediately noticeable, from 1000-4000rpms it just goes- and then once I hit around 4500rpms... WHOOOOOSH!!!! The car is flying!!!!! Huge improvement over stock!!! This thing is a BEAST!

Don't get me wrong, at 400hp it flys anyways, but not like this!!! I kept running out of safe highway to fly down, with cops and all (my points, ha) these days, I really need to bring this thing to the track- but I will tell you at 4th gear, 4500rpm shifting on the paddles and at 120mph, I was just getting started!!!! The car kept pulling and pulling and pulling, there was no end in sight!! I felt like this car was going to pull right into the sunset after my ride to Montauk end point this afternoon-

I highly recommend anybody who has the Quattroporte to get the DBW, and the ECM from Jeff at formula dynamics, and if you are in NY/NJ area, I highly recommend you give Anthony Simone a call, and set something up with Kent at Universal Autosports- They do amazing work, and will treat your car like a baby!! I saw them working on a Ferrari Enzo, McLaren F1 and the usual suspects, amazing cars...

Okay Back to the details..

You guys really are missing out with this one, it will totally spice up the car, and it sounds sooooo sweet!! I followed while my wife drove afterwards, you can notice a suttle increase of throaty noise while in the car, and from the outside, it sounds like a sweet ferrari engine, but Better IMO!! :D

I was very impressed with the way things came out, I will be back to tweak minor adjustments as this was expected, but this more than exceeded my expectations by miles!! I am so happy I did this, it feels like a newer, stronger, better car!! Do it right, and go all out, or don't do it at all fellas!

I need to check what air filter is in the 2004 I have just bought. The FD one is a BMC air filter. The size and shape is obviously different but I recognize it since I put their filter kit in my Ducati. If their is not a BMC in the coupe their will be.

Anyone have the instructions for installing FD DBWEM for 2005 QP?
Trying to see degree of difficulty before I purchase.
Thanks
