Hello, all. I've put about 2000 miles on my Coupe since I got it (it was a 2003 with 3200 miles when I purchased it a few months ago), and it seems to be developing more interior squeaks and rattles than a 1985 Chevy :( . Notably, the doors (perhaps somewhere near the speakers) and the center console where the mirror adjuster is located. Anyone had a similar issue and, if so, how did you slay these beasts?

I thought it would start to rattle pretty quickly since it rides so hard, but I've found it to be okay so far. 6k miles and counting. I'm sure PA's roads are worse than CA's though. Sometimes a dealer will correct these things, other times they will look at you like you're an alien if you mention it. It's worth a shot. A rattle is just something that worked loose.

I have a door rattle with the windows down.

I have 4,500 miles on my 04 coupe.

I noticed a rattle from the inside of my drivers side door, only when the window is up.

My dealer is about 30 miles away in central NJ and I called and spoke with the service manager. I told him about it and he said it would certainly be covered under warranty AS LONG as the door panel was never removed or tampered with.

It will be addressed in 1,500 miles or about 8 weeks when I take my car in for the 6,000 mile oil change.

Most of the time I drive with my windows down cause I love the sound of the Tubi and when they are up I have the radio on, so I only hear the noise when someone else is in the car and the radio is off and the windows up.

I would suggest you talk to your service guy. I have had good experiences with these people so far.

Good Luck.

My door rattle may be related to the speaker or grille. I looked at the service history and the driver's side speaker was replaced at one time under warranty by a previous owner. The grille definitely rattles, but it sounds like something behind the speaker as well. Will tough it out until my 6000 mile service in a few weeks and report back results. For now, I just keep the revs up and can't hear a thing... :D

Had "door rattle" issues and they were fixed under warranty by dealer - apparently quite a common niggle and I believe they are fixed by simple adjustment to the window closing mechanism.

My car is very quiet.

My solution though, 1 JL subwoofer, 1 JL amplifier, and some techno with alot of bass. You'll never hear any squeeks again, guranteed! ;)

I have the door rattle issue in my GS as well, in the right door, and it is unnerving - especially as it should have been solved:
The dealer's head mechanic basically moaned when I handed him my list of things that were not ok in the 10,000 km service, and has not fixed all of them, among them the door rattle. All the more unnerving as I do not really live close to the dealer, and work a lot, so have not really time to drive there often.

It would have been nice to at least get a call the next day to be told which of the issues they had solved and which not, but this has not happened either...
Amazing what customer service you get when buying a luxury car.

As I become more interested in the GS, I'm clearly more interested in what can go wrong. In addition to the rattle in the door, what other things comprise the list of problems your service is addressing?

Thanks,

Haha, gotta love JL base. I run a 12 in my hatch with a 250w class D mono. Can't run at full volume though, it hurts my ears. In my old autocross-prepped car, I ran it with no interior, and when I ran some of the tuning frequencies, you could watch the door skins reverberate around 40-46 hz. They looked like a glass of water sitting on a subwoofer.. (which if you've never tried before, is entertaining, especially if the sub puts out some bass. get your hands on a song by bjork - hyperballad, and sat a 3/4 full pint glass on my computer sub, which is dual 6.5" 300w, in a full ported enclosure)

not that this has anything to do with your rattles... Sorry.

jrb, here's the list (and I still LOVE my GS!)

1. Both doors could only be opened with some force (was fixed)
2. Engine can sometimes not be started. It works again when I open the driver door and shut it (was not fixed, but only happens rarely and got rarer over time; no comment from dealer)
3. When driving over road bumps, sometimes all the lights in the cockpit blink, the rpm meter falls to zero; after 2 seconds all is fine again (was not fixed; head mechanic says he would have to check all cable connections and has not had the time for this...)
4. Sometimes the "Sport" mode falls out itself with no apparent reason (not fixed; no comment from dealer)
5. Door rattling (as discussed, not fixed; no comment from dealer)
6. Slight noise from steering wheel center when maneuvring (not fixed; comment that they did not hear it...)
7. Petrol cover did not open when I wanted to fill up (was fixed, reason was spring with lack of power)
8. Sometimes slight screetching sound when accelerating (normally) from standstill (not fixed; no comment from dealer)
9. Power windows have once not worked properly when I closed the door (they are supposed to automatically lower themselves slightly so the door closes properly), with result that the window was smashed against the car body. To my surprise, nothing broke (not fixed, but happened only once; no comment from dealer)
10. Factory-installed CD player sometimes says "no medium" although a CD is in (and no, it happens with original CDs, no self-burnt ones) (not fixed, no comment from dealer)
11. Key's grey rubber cover of the "open/close" button has torn (and no, I do not have long fingernails...) (not fixed, no comment from dealer)
12. Watch runs ahead maybe 2 minutes per month (not fixed, dealer comment that he cannot fix this)
13. Petrol reserve gauge is very non-linear: does almost not move the first 100 km after I filled the car up, after 300km the gauge starts to fall very rapidly (cannot be fixed according to dealer)

All in all, in above list, there's nothing that keeps me from using my GS as an everyday car, and I love it to death! Would I buy it again? Absolutely!
Would I be happier with better dealer support? Definitely!

OK, making progress. Center console squeak is gone, door rattle/buzzing is less, but still present. Turn up the radio and crank up the RPMs!

Note - my CC coupe had a new clutch 10 months ago and recently started to emit the occasional "screech" on engaging first (esp when cold)
Dealer tells me some clutches in CCs have started doing this and I am due a replacement under warranty!

Just thought some might find it interesting but I had a very annoying interior squeak around 14,100 miles but it only lasted 5-10 minutes. Didn't hear it after that.
