Trying to hook up a battery tender on an 07 Quatroportte for storage. The car manual says to hook both the neg and pos clips directly to the battery. The battery tenders instructions say to hook up the positive to the battery and clip the negative to the frame of the car.

Which is correct?

Also, since the battery is in the trunk. No easy access to the frame or metal that isn't really thin.

I use a battery tender every summer when I leave the car behind in our winter home. I just connect it to the battery; works great.

Go to an auto parts store and purchase a two conductor with plug tow wire set. About $3-$5.

Purchase two 1/4" solder rings. Solder the non-plug leads to the solder rings.

Make sure that on the plug you make the positive (+) the connection covered by the rubber plug assembly and the exposed part of the plug the negative (-) connector.

Connect the appropriate +/- leads to the +/- terminals of the battery.

Make sure you have a similar plug on the tender.

Then you can connect/disconnect the tender at any time.

Don't use alligator clips. You will someday ground them and make a mess.

In this manner you are charging directly to the battery.

Works like a charm.
