Hi All, I’m new to the forum and have been seriously considering buying a Ghibli sq4. While it is one of the best sounding and most fun cars I’ve ever driven, I’ve been doing a lot of research (including this forum) which has scared me away because of reliability concerns and the high maintenance costs (I get it, price of admission). I know you but a Maserati because it is a joy to drive, not because of practicality or reliability rating, but I Drive A LOT, all over the place, and am concerned about putting 20k miles a year on a car like this. Plus, while I get that major items would be covered under warranty, I can’t afford to be in He shop all the time, or worse, stranded. But, it is so much fun to drive. So please everyone, talk me into it, or tell me that I’m being reasonable and making a smart decision to walk away based on my use. Thanks!

Best advice if you're considering the Ghibli is to get a 2016+ model, some may argue but from what we see the early Ghiblis have the most trouble. Not to say that a 2018 can't have issues as well but overall they are much better sorted. In the end, if you really like the car, life is short, pick one up and enjoy!

Best Regards,

I'm on my second Ghibli and both have been mostly trouble free. And yes, they are a pure JOY to drive! That said, I'm only driving 5-6k miles a year and had both brand new (leased the first one for 3 years, then ordered and purchased the second one). Annual maintenance isn't cheap, but it's a Maserati after all. If you are looking at a used model, stick with 2017 or later if possible. The uConnect system was upgraded for 2017 along with a few other features that should have been there the whole time like blind spot monitoring. And yes, most of the issues with the earlier models have been sorted out. It was a brand new car in 2014 so those 14-16 models had loads of campaigns (recalls). But the Ferrari made engine and ZF transmission are mostly bullet proof, so little to worry there. The only issue I had on my 2015 was needing to have the power steering fluid flushed because it started making a buzzing noise, which was covered under warranty. No issues to report on my 2018 after 16 months of mostly hard, city driving. Both have been surprisingly very reliable for me as I had the same concerns before I made the leap. But I'd still get the extended warranty if you're going used.

Come jump into the pool, the water is warm...

I own a 2019 levante and I daily drive the car and it has had zero issues at all. I have about 10,000 miles on it so far. I think the reliability issues are mostly from the pre-2016 models.... Maserati’s newer models are much more reliable and up to date. I would consider getting a 2018 or newer ghibli because those are going to save you in maintenance costs the best. In my opinion the levante is a better buy than the ghibli because it’s super reliable and it’s faster than the ghibli and more practicle.

I drive about 15K per year on a QP and another 2K per year on a Spyder. Do it, find a good Indie mechanic, and adhere to the maintenance schedule. Good luck.
